I was wondering if any fellow Freepers have tried the new medication Chantix for quitting smoking. I am on day 6, and I haven't had any results at all - per my husband, quite the opposite actually - probably all in my head, but was wondering if it worked for anyone else and if so, how long it took to notice a difference.
Thanks! :-)
I quit last September using Chantex. I was very impressed.
I smoked for 19 years and had tried everything on the market to quit. My wife and I went on Chantex last September 15 with the predetermined quit date set at September 22. You actually keep smoking while it builds up in your system the first week.
What I started to notice towards the end of that week was that I was no longer feeling different whether I smoked or not. I wasn’t getting nicotine anxiety. When we officially quit on the 22nd the first thing I noticed was when I was craving it was based on the habit and not a need for nicotine. And since I knew that if I did smoke it would make no change (Chantex blocks the nicotene receptors) I just didn’t bother.
The side effects weren’t too bad. For me it was a change in my dreams (they got really wierd for a while) and my skin was a little more sensitive (I’d get itchy). Neither were bad enough to stop me from taking the drug.
At any rate good luck quitting and Chantex worked for me so if you are going to go on it I hope you have the same result.
I wouldn’t say I got insomnia. I could go to sleep, but I would wake up several times because my dreams go so wierd. It’s hard to stay asleep when you are laughing out loud.
My dreams on it are weird too.
Of course, I normally do not remember my dreams so I can’t really say that they aren’t always this weird.
Ditto on the Dreams, one side effect I liked.
Unfortunately, I gave up. I hope to try it again after the first of the year.
Well, I smoked for 19 years and spend 9 of them trying to quit so don’t give up. It was always hard for me because most quit smoking programs have their own “support” programs where you talk to others and boost each other up and I’m not into that touchy, feely crap.
The Chantex allowed me to quit without the “support” groups.
Keep digging, you’ll do it.
My boss used it and she hasn’t smoked since February. She did have some weight gain.
Bookmarked and bumped! Thank you.
