I'm starting on it this weekend. From what I have read, it is the best drug for smoking cessation support. The literature on Chantix is very encouraging. How about Laser Therapy? My brother quit smoking after a couple of laser treatments.

Good luck to both of you. If you can just make it to a month it becomes much easier to handle.

I quit, using the gum. What I like about it is it removes the craving and gives you something to do with your mouth.

How about Laser Therapy?

I tried it but it kept cutting my cigarettes in two. Now I just use a Bic lighter.

I am currently using Chantix. I have tried to quit smoking before but always went back after the first few weeks. One thing I am noticing is that the Nicotine withdrawals are not as sever as they were with the patch or cold turkey. I have not "Needed" a smoke for 4 days. However the "Habit" is damn difficult to break. So 4 days and counting. What it takes is will power and a true desire to stop. Chantix is helping me...

One of my friends went the hypnosis route last year in July. He hasn't smoked since. I just quit by throwing my cigs in the trash and never spent another cent for them.

COLD TURKEY is the best way to quit.

My neighbor used Chantix and quit smoking after 3 weeks. He didn't stay quit, though.

Honestly, you will find, as I did, that the best way to stop smoking is to stop putting them in your mouth, period. I was 2 1/2 packs a day and couldn't quit until I got serious about it. Once you make the decision to stop smoking, and really mean business, you'll find the cigarettes will lose their power over you. Would you drink milk if it said on the label: "This product is known to cause cancer and serious heart disease and will shorten your life span by 15 percent. If you drink this product every day you will likely die a slow, painful death. Drinking this product will also increase your life insurance premiums by 20 percent, and it will damage the health of anyone whose around you while you're eating it" ???

I'm getting ready to start my 6th week. Keep in mind that the first week is half the dose. I smoked the entire first week, but haven't smoked since.

It didn't take away the craving, but it certainly takes the edge off.

Wife and I did the patch. I was down to so little before I quit that I needed just the #3 for 2 weeks and done. She went the full course and used stir sticks to suck on for the mouth thing.

It's going on a year now and only once was I tempted. I was drinking some beers on the Beach in Honduras. It was Dec 18 and it was 85 degrees and a comfy breeze was blowing. A friend lit up...I almost asked for one. I got through it though.

Thanks for the input. I thought my week stay in the hospital last month for pneumonia and no smoking for a week would have made me quit - especially the severe anxiety during the ct scan wondering if it was cancer. But nooooo, I made it until Sunday morning then started pulling on my hair out - so I started back up - seems like with a vengeance. Anyway, my doctor gave the Chantix and my "quit day is Sunday", so we'll see.

Also, may sound crazy, but that week I was in the hospital, something happened to my attitude as well. I have the outlook of "I'm gonna do what I need to do, and everyone else needs to get with the program". I've told my boss off 3 times when he snapped at me, and I've given my husband the option of either drinking everyday or finding a new place to live. My kids don't like that they are now completely on their own with their laundry. But you know what, it feels good to finally be able to stand up for myself without feeling guilty about hurting anyones feelings. I guess it takes wondering if you're gonna die to put things in perspective. I've let too many people walk all over me for far too long because that's just my nature - take care of everything and everybody. Not anymore - I've even told my mom "no" when she's called needing this or that.

Guess I've figured out it's time to take better care of me instead of running myself down all the time. I sure hope I can quit smoking too.

A good friend of mine has been though hypnosis twice and still smokes like a chimney. :)

No, I have no idea why she thought it would any better the second time...

If you can avoid coffee/stimulants/acids/sugars/fruits, for a week, and take a very long walk as soon as you open your eyes, followed by a rigorous swim, a week off of work, and a complete avoidance of any old habits that might trigger cravings, quitting will be easier.

Some people are so addicted, they'll never stop. I never was a heavy smoker, so the cold turkey method worked for me.

Keep hangin' in there. The first 4 weeks are the worst. After that, it starts getting a bit easier and easier with each passing week.

I chain smoked Marlboro reds for a little over 20 years. If I can quit cold turkey, anyone can quit. I haven't had a draw off a cigarette in 9 years, and I do not have any cravings for a smoke. Prayer, and the good Lord was how I quit smoking.

Good luck! You can do it.

My wife began using this drug back on Feb. 21. She had her last cigarette on the 24th.

She has not had one since. I think the first week was hardest for her, but it's a LOT better now.
I am so proud of her!

Our neighbor is using it also and is having success, as long as she stays on the medicine. She still sneaks a puff here and there. Good thing is she does not like it when she does cheat.
