I'm writing a paper that involves different constitutional theories. I need a book essay etc.. that provides a primer on the different theories. Any help would be great!

What, the US Constitution doesn't come with Cliff Notes?

I'm referring to theories of interpetation( textualism, original intent etc...)

For original intent, it doesn't get any better that "The Federalist" which is a book that should be more widely read anyway. For theory, try Leslie Lipton's "The Great Issues of Politics." I hope this paper isn't due tomorrow 'cause Liption should not be read before operating heavy machinery. Absolute classic, though.

Good luck.

George W. Carey's "American Political Thought" might be of some help.

Good luck.

I stongly recommend that you read the complete text of the constitution, bill of rights, ammendments, etc. first and make notes about your own interpretations. Then reseach the language and context of the period.

The constitution is not a complicated document. The language is more formal but little is left for interpretation, until that is, you have a lawyer explain how judges have interpreted it over the years. Then, it is the most philisophical example of symobolism ever theorized on paper in a hypothetical conondrum by drunken, arrogant fools.

Good luck with your reseach. I would be curious to read the end product.

"I'm referring to theories of interpetation"

the constitution is written in English. Why do you, or anyone need to interpret it?

I have found that an interpretive dance or diorama usually impresses professors more than a mundane paper.

Try here, for starters (to help with terminology). If you need to expand your search because the term "constitutional interpretation" is too narrow, try "legal interpretation," as the two are joined at the hip.
