Why in the name of all that is good would you keep these dogs when you have small children in your home? If you are single or married without children, fine. You have every right to risk your own hide. But why would you be so stupid as to put a child at risk, even for those who might argue the risk is minimal?

You answered your own question there.

Because some people are stupid.

I know of two people -- one a neighbor and one a really dumb relation -- that had pits attack their kids unprovoked. Luckily, both survived without too much trauma, but the pits were put down.

Why, indeed, would you put a child at risk? With most of these dogs it's the same story -- breaking free from chains in the yard, where they spend most of their time. That's humane?

We were thinking of adopting a dog recently, and looked at the dogs being offered for adoption on line by the local humane society. Well over 50% were pure pit or mixed pit blood. Why are these animals being kept alive? Would you trust the word of whoever gave them up (this humane society doesn't take strays) to tell you the truth about them?

And yes, I've read the arguments: they're not bad animals, they just have bad owners, or have been bred badly. The fact is, other than a highly skilled dog handler that has complete control of a trained pit at all times, no one should own one. In the wrong hands, they are all potential killers.

From the story, unless this was in a fenced in yard, this could have just as easily have been a neighbors child since the animal broke loose.

seems to be an ever increasing group of people out there that put human children second, after animals.....

its just the decline of our culture and the rise of Paganism....
