A 2-year-old Texas girl riding her tricycle was attacked and fatally mauled by her family's male pit bull, it was reported Friday.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Department responded to a 911 call Thursday afternoon from a man believed to be the girl's father, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Deputy Michael Ortiz said the girl's injuries were mainly to her face and head but neighbors who witnessed the attack said she also appeared to have been bitten on the throat and buttocks.
Witnesses said the girl's father was trimming weeds nearby when one of the family's pit bulls apparently broke it chains and attacked the child.
Authorities withheld the name of the victim and her father pending a decision on whether to file criminal charges in the case.

Most Pitbull owners work for landscapers so it does make sense. Most Pitbull owners are illegal aliens?

Thanks again.
We followed that story closely here on FR.
One or two posters were familiar with victim.
I'll spend some time tomorrow finding those threads and updating them.
I don't understand how the jury could have found him not guilty.

I have no idea. I assume the problem was with the way the law is currently written.
The legislature is working to change it.

Hi wolfcreek I was asking about this further down the thread without seeing your post.
I'll visit the site and lend what support I can.
I don't understand the jury accepting the defense reasoning that Hernandez had no basis to know his dogs could be potentially dangerous.

I hope everyone saw the correction to the website.

"I don't understand the jury accepting the defense reasoning that Hernandez had no basis to know his dogs could be potentially dangerous."
He thought they were dangerous enough to put up an electric fence but, with only a 3 ft. chainlink, most large dogs could jump over. The guy claimed a *burglar* let the dogs out on the day in question. When asked why he didn't report the burglary, he said he had been burglarize many times before but, never bothered to report it. (seems he may be an illegal alien and didn't want to draw attention to himself) If I were a burglar, I don't know if a house with 6 or 7 large dogs in the yard would be a good choice.
As far as I know, the family will now seek civil damages from the landowner who rented to Mr. Hernandez.

Backing up from 'all dogs' aren't you? I don't trust these breeds around my kids either. But anyone tryingto make the case that pits are just another harmless breed unless mistreated is whistling out his ear.

Backing up from 'all dogs' aren't you? Never said ALL dogs. I said any dog. So have you ever raised a Pitbull in a loving home? Apparently not. Kind of like having the mindset that all blacks are on welfare and all muslims are terrorists. Dont be so closed minded. Leave that to the libs.

Our neighbors had an Australian Cattle dog, he was a mean biter. He especially like to bite runners in the calf as they ran past his house. They reminded him of cows I guess and his instinct was to 'heel' them. Some dogs are guided by instinct more than training.

So have you ever raised a Pitbull in a loving home? I must admit that I have NEVER raised a tiger, a Kodiak bear, a King Cobra, or many other dangerous animals in my home.
Tomorrow I will buy a pitbull pup, right after I make out my last will and testament.
After all, it's a DOG OF PEACE!

St. Bernards only slobber when they are overworked in heat -- their sweat glands are inside their jowels.

Back when I was a youngster the family across the street had a Saint Bernard.
She whelped and had about eight puppies. They were as cute as could be.
But they got big, very fast. When they wanted to nurse they would knock poor old "slobberchops" off her feet!

I have an Australian Cattle Dog and they ARE instinctively programmed to chase moving things. Mine only lightly nips anything he's trying to herd, but I've yet to be able to stop him from chasing cars.
If you're not running, he's not the slightest bit interested in nipping you.
