March 22, 2007, Thursday, CORRIGIBLE

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow I’m bringing in chains, so beware.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

CORRIGIBLE

Pronunciation: 'kor-i-ji-bal, 'kär-
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Medieval Latin corrigibilis, from Latin corrigere

1: capable of being set right : REPARABLE (a corrigible defect)
- cor·ri·gi·bil·i·ty

he went from thinking she was in remission to finding out that she has 20% chance of surviving 5 years, in a matter of days. you don't absorb that instantaneously and make rational decisions based on that sort of bombshell news.

Of course not. Who knows what will happen in the coming days and weeks. It's probably not a decision I would have made, but thankfully I wasn't one of the ones facing that decision.

I can see having sympathy and thinking they are in denial......I am NOT unsympathetic. However, what is in the best interests of his country AND his family. Do we need a president who is spending months at the death bed of his wife? Attempting to raise two children alone? -a lust for power is a very dangerous thing. He has plied his trade on tragedies to earn millions......now he is (intentionally or not) doing the same with his own family to get the presidency. Sad. Just my honest assessment from the bleachers.

That would keep me corrigible, too.

This computer of mine is going into the incorrigible box and going to hard drive Heaven this weekend. I started it from scratch three times Tuesday and two times today. Just went back to bed for some well earned sleep. Working now. We'll see.

-you BETTER be able to process this kind of thing and deal in reality -- the president makes life/death decisions all the time........it takes a certain kind of man to manage that.

i do not think that someone can be expected to be rational and thinking of all potential impacts within a day of receiving this sort of news. imagine being on the receiving end of this prognosis? i can imagine it, and i assure you, i doubt i would be making any sort of rational decisions that i would want to be judged on, within the first few days of hearing it. if in the face of this prognosis he continues on in the campaign, with her getting sicker and being left behind while he goes forward, yes, i will judge him, but not now. not within a short period of time of hearing that your beloved wife is unlikely to be around for more than a year or two, if that.

i am judging him as a MAN not as a presidential candidate, he had no realistic shot at the presidency anyway. people are judging him as unfeeling and selfish and i think, at THIS juncture, that is unfair. he may very well be despicable, but i will not judge someone this close to receiving that sort of news.

Also, remember that he is running an entire operation. I'm sure I would be loathe to simply dismiss all my employees and volunteers immediately upon getting such news.

Cyber didn't think there was a word "corrigible," until I showed him. He thought it was always "incorrigible."

I'll wait for your sentence.
