My understanding is that the state bar can disbar him for a specified time, or permanently. Not sure if that means he could NOT legally continue in his elected office, but I would think that would be enough to do in der Nifongfuhrer.
I'm under the impression that they can disbar him for five years. After that point, he can re-apply for admission but the bar is not obligated to grant it.

I was shocked to read that there is no provision in NC that would terminate his salary if he is disbarred. Have read that the legislature is working on this.
