Suddenly, single women are all the rage. News stories abound about the growing number of happily unattached women of all ages. And publishers can't get books about single women out fast enough. Here are three of the best: "Single Mom Seeking: Playdates, Blind Dates and Other Dispatches From The Dating World," by Rachel Sarah (Seal, $14.95). Sarah, 34, mother of 6-year-old Mae, writes about her own dating experiences as a single mom in a charming and funny way. You get the sense she's less "expert" and more "one of us," trying to figure out how in the world to do this. Quote: "It is so much easier to stay home and cuddle up with a movie with your kid. I was so scared to get close to anybody. For the first few years, I just went for unavailable men." "The New Single Woman," by Kay Trimberger (Beacon, $16). Sociologist Trimberger, a single mother, tracked 27 satisfied single women over time and draws some surprising conclusions. Quote: "I can say about my twenty-three-year-old son, Marco, what feminist Robin Morgan said about her son: 'He is the only man I truly love.' " "Single by Chance, Mothers by Choice: How Women are Choosing Parenthood Without Marriage and Creating the New American Family," by Rosanna Hertz (Oxford, $26). Women's studies professor Hertz tells about 65 middle-class single mothers and their lives as "reluctant revolutionaries," writing that they found their way there more by circumstance than choice, but were determined to do right by their children. Quote: "If your child gets sick in the middle of the night, the question is, 'Who am I going to call?' That's the moment you feel like a single mother."

So many classy single women out there...too bad none of 'em like me. *sniff*
What glory, sure. Ask the kid who grows up without a father how glorious a favor his mom did for him/her.
It's self-perpetuating self-esteem for the wounded by self-infliction.
Holy cats. Here we go again. "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle" yadda yadda yadda.
I sense an attempt at trend-creation. Most women need a man in their life. I think. Or am I whistling past a graveyard?
For cripesakes don't admit it huh. Pretend you've got something going for yourself !!!
In the words of Jack Nicholson, "This ain't REALITY TV...!"
Those who need, get [at least most of them do]. And as for the rest - whatever cooks their goose.
But when their goose gets cooked, what happens to the kids?
I think it's the single women who are whistling past the graveyard. Yes, most women need a man, but if a single mother can't get a man, is it better for her to be miserable and depressed and self-pitying about the fact, or should she perhaps try to make a good life for herself despite her single state? The Bible tells us to be content in our condition, whatever it is, whether we are married or single.
Feminists are too angry/hostile to strike a person as happy. Besides, all this talk about female independence from feminists is phony. They proved that with their reaction to Bill Clinton.
"I'd rather be barefoot and pregnant at home than down on my knees in the Oval office."
Kate O'Bierne, commenting on the Clinton years.
That whole plan starts to fold up when a young lady's architecture starts to obey the law of gravity and she goes into her 40's and 50's saying "Well.....I could've".
I have a longstanding policy of never dating a single or divorced mom, it's just not worth the hassle, especially when there are so many young, attractive women without that kind of baggage.
Not a healthy relationship for the son...
You'd be shocked at how many single women I know would love to have a child --- as long as it's a boy. They said that girls are too difficult to raise. I think it's because they want the same type of "relationship" as stated in the quote.
It's a buyers market out there and has been for a long while. It's much easier for a good guy to find an attractive, good woman, than it is for a good woman to find a good, attractive guy.
Me, I admit I like it that way. :-)
I admit, I am a bad guy!!! ;-)
