Family: Rocker Brad Delp's death was suicide.
CONCORD, N.H. The family of rock musician Brad Delp says his death last week was a suicide.
In a statement relayed through police, the family gave no other details concerning Delp's death at his Atkinson, New Hampshire on Friday.
Police have said his fiancee, Pamela Sullivan, found him there.
Delp was the lead singer for the band Boston, which was founded in the 1970s.
The statement says Delp -- a native of Danvers -- was a man who gave all he had to help everyone around him.
It goes on to say he was "very tired" and that the family takes comfort in knowing that he's finally at peace.
Some of Boston's hits include "More Than A Feeling" and "Peace of Mind."
I don't pretend to know the reasons why Brad did what he did, but I met Brad Delp backstage once for a half hour or so, and I felt he was certainly the type of person who tried desperately to please everyone but himself. That sort of frustration can build up inside until it consumes you. He was honestly the nicest person I ever met, but I wish he had been nicer to himself.
He of all people knew how many people loved him and how many people would be hurt by this and I sense that deterred him from acting on this impulse for a long time until it became just too overwhelming.
He even cared enough about others to put notes up warning rescue workers to beware carbon monoxide. Such as he was.
I'll miss him. He was my favorite singer of all time. He could impart a rock song with real emotion like no other singer I've known and he was amazing in concert right until the end.
Interesting info. Hope I didn't imply I don't respect Sholz's energy and talents -- just think, as I said, the guitar sound was too...overworked. My picky opinion. The throat gets at least as much credit -- as you said, both were instantly recognizeable. A perfect Pop storm.
Alright, Pissy....let's hear YOU sing. :P
That comment was directed at some other guy that offed himself, not the singer.
