Click on this link to watch EagleCam the live Eagle camera at Norfolk Botanical Gardens in Norfolk VA. This pair has been nesting here for about 4 years and have produced 12 offspring so far. This season there were 3 eggs...so far today there's one egg and 2 brand new hatchlings.
It's pretty amazing that you can find a pair of Bald Eagles in such a densley populated urban area. The nest is about a quarter mile from the main runway at Norfolk International Airport, about a mile from the Navy's Little Creek Amphibious Base and about 5 miles from downtown Norfolk. Yet here they are...
Wonder if the time in the nest is divided equally between Mom & Dad.
My wife could tell you if she could tell the difference btwn the two. She’s absolutely fascinated by them. BTW...do you know how to tell the difference between a male and female baldie?
No, I have no idea!
I can’t find the note on the site, but I just received this email from my cousin who lives in Virginia:
Just checked out the eagle cam and there is a note that a biologist from the College of William and Mary will be banding the babies on Tuesday morning between 8:30 - 9:00 am. I guess the cameras will still be up so they said to check it out! That should be interesting!
Is this the same nest where last year viewers were treated to the largest of the siblings devouring the smallest, live & in color?
Really? I didn’t see last year, but this year, when they were smaller, there were instances where I saw the biggest peck at the smallest. Other times, the smallest would be sleeping while the others were being fed....I just didn’t think he’d make it. But he’s still hangin’ in there and growing.
Anyway, if you click on the “Virginia” patch under the screen, you can see past years.
Tomorow between 8:30 and 9:00 a biologist is going to climb to the nest and band the chicks. Wonder how they're planning to deal with the adults? That should be interesting.
