Looking for some good "story telling" songs that accompany good strings, accoustics and "mellow" / "rythmic" lines...

Oh, and I am hopping in the shower, will check the thread once I am out of the shower.

I don't know about along the same lines but Joanna Newsom has a great new album called "Ys."

As for Dire Straits, they don't make them like that anymore.

Well, take a gander over at the weekly FReeper Canteen, where about two dozen very hard working FReepers spin tunes for FReepers, especially our troop overseas, giving them a place to listen to music that won't spyware them to death.

The last thread is here:

I listen to www.pandora.com. Create a login, ask for Dire Straits and you will get music with similar genomes (musical patterns). After a week of tuning, I seldom even need to reject a song anymore.

Check out Eva Cassidy and her album "American Dream". Eva passed on ten years ago and still her unique talents grace the internet.

Sultans of Swing always has the big Bob Dylan vibe, but I'm not sure what you are asking for. More similar music or names that are suggestive of that music to be used for original songs or band names? Of the existing bands, I can think of Tom Petty and the Heart breakers, The Traveling Willberries, The Wall Flowers, Counting Crows, Los Lobos, Chris Issac or even Bruce "the Boss" Springsteen. Pretty straight forward rock/ballad music.

The Drive-by Truckers have a lot of very story oriented songs. Also The Hold Steady.

Try Social Distortion. It's punk rock, but it's very, very bluesy. You might like it.
