No, you are not reading too much into it. Many have spoken about how Mr. step-and-fetchit isolated Anna from family and friends. Appears that was his mission in life.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...that's not what I understood Hogan to tell Greta. I thought he said Anna looked him up and found him in 1994. Afterwards he visited her several times in LA. Then Greta asked for how long did they keep up their contacts, and I thought he said a couple of years or so (1996), then after that, little or no contact. Did I totally get it wrong? I would've sworn that's what I heard...
