GASTONIA, N.C. -- Jessica's aunt, Susan Lunsford, was actually on her way home when a friend called to tell her about Wednesday's verdict. She told Eyewitness News she pulled over and listened to it over the phone. Lunsford could barely contain her emotions as she watched news coverage of the trial in Florida from her living room in Gastonia. She says, "it wasn't that I doubted it; it was just I needed to hear it. I needed to hear it. "
Nine year-old Jessica Lunsford was kidnapped from her bedroom of her Central Florida home in February 2005. John Couey then raped the young girl and buried her alive. Jurors only deliberated 4 hours before returning the guilty verdict against Couey.
But the decision has given Jessica's father, Mark Lunsford, little comfort. When reporters asked him to describe his emotions he told them, "he aint dead yet".
Yet for lundford's sister, Susan, there is relief. She believes, "there will never be any closure. But there will be relief in knowing that this one is complete." More importantly, she hopes today's verdict will keep other children from becoming a victim the way Jessica did. She hopes, "somehow some of these sexual predators have watched this. And they're going see what happens to him. And they're going to really think about this before they ever touch another child. "
Other family members including Jessica's mom and dad are still in Florida. They'll stay there through the sentencing hearing next Tuesday.

Susan Lunsford (SueDee) is a good friend and a beautiful person. SueDee and Mark and the entire Lunsford family are some of the best people I have ever met. Please send prayers to the Lunsford family to find closure and any sense of justice for a beautiful little girl whose life was taken so tragically.
Also contact your representatives if you state does not have Jessica's Law. Had this law been inacted, Couey would not have been walking streets, smoking crack and violating our children after being arrested 26 times.
And sweet little Jesse would still be alive.
SueDee wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support.....

More like an acquaintance. I used to see SueDee and Mark from time to time. Everyone remembers SueDee because she always has a hug for everyone she knows. I haven't seen SueDee in several years and haven't seen Mark since he moved back to Florida. I just hope they are doing well. (as well as can be expected)

I've been praying for that little girl and her family since day one.
Not that I'm a fan of Bill O'Reilly, but he got it right last night. "Jessica Lunsford is everyones child and all of America should take her death very personally".
We must not tolerate these people in our society, no second chances for those that prey upon the most vulnerable among us.
I will continue to keep her and her family in my prayers.

My heart goes out to Mark Lunsford.

Its a testiment to our liberal courts.
The next child murderer is walking around out there right now, knowing fair well that he can do as he pleases and a liberal judge will let him off the hook.

I hope so too. Mark certainly has done what he can to make some good come from this tragedy, fighting for justice for other victims.

YEP. Thats Mark. I only wish Mark and a couple of his buddies had five minutes with Couey.
Although they would need more time than five minutes. They would do it slowly.....

Sending prayers and hopes that this family's tragedy does prevent other children from meeting the same horrible fate.
Just looking at her daddy's face is enough to break your heart.

I doubt the scumbag lives long in prison. Hopefully he doesn't.
There really nevre is justice in these kinds of situations, though.
