I listened to HOT KID, Elmore Leonard's latest book, on CD, read by Arliss Howard. It would make a great comedic movie. Setting is the 1930s in Oklahoma and surrounding areas. The reader was so good and had the regional tone so perfect that I became really absorbed with the story. Hope Hollywood gives this book serious consideration. I don't recall seeing HOMBRE but will ask for it next time we visit Blockbusters.

They are remaking Leonard's '3:10 to Yuma' with Russell Crowe. Damn near every book Leonard (aka Dutch) wrote has been filmed. Here's an incomplete list...

Get Shorty

Be Cool

Valdez is Coming

Mr. Majestyk

Stick

Fifty-Two Pick-up

Jackie Brown

Moonshine Wars

Glitz

Out of Sight

Cat Chaser

....that's about half.

I remember when Pulp Fiction came out everyone was singing its praises while a few of us recognized that Tarantino had just read every Leonard novel and copied the style (did a great job too).

If you can find Hombre watch it twice, once for the story and then for the dialogue. There are more great lines in this film than in any other (close second is 'Out of the Past'). I've seen it twenty times and I am still blown away by the flood of gems. I watch it at least once a year and after ten viewings my wife finally got why.

btw....iirc, the father character in Hot Kid is a retread of the main character in Leonard's Cuba Libre. Both great books about time and place that nobody else writes about.

Thanks for kind comments. It is good you do so much reading. Now the reading I do is mostly non-fiction.

I also am going to check out Hombre. I don't believe I saw that
