To: snugs

Hi Snugs.. you know technically we use theater for live performances also.

the building is also referred to as the movie "theater".

We use the term Movies and slang flicks most commonly.

The term Picture Show was once used commonly but not much any more.

I suppose that is where we have got the word pictures from a shortening of the old fashion term picture show never thought of that before.

Nice opening thread, Dolly.

Snugs, my relatives in the South used to call the movies the picture show-many small towns in America did back in the day....In my middle-sized Northern hometown we used to say show...as in "I am going to the show on Sat." There is even a movie called "The Last Picture Show" which was critically acclaimed.

Hey, I still call it the picture show!

Great thread, great work. I don't watch too many movies anymore, except some on TV -- Encore movie channel, Sundance, etc. Occasionally, I'll go out for one. I always have an opinion of a movie after seeing it...pretty accurate opinion, I feel. :)

I'm interested in the thread, so thanks for the ping.
