Welp, I'm gonna make the most of it. I've never been in a situation where I had so few choices, and so many obstacles, but I'm going to find a way to get make it all fit, and still have room to walk.

I may have to invest in a Murphy bed, but that would be preferable to no breathing room.

So when are you flying? It sounds like you were getting used to being home.

Friends of ours installed a Murphy bed in their small house and were happy with it (though it was for guests).

I'll be traveling 3 weeks from this coming Sunday -- and yes, I've been enjoying being home. They cut our travel budgets this year so I won't be traveling much; I am estimating 5 trips this year though I might be able to squeeze in a 6th. I will be missing some regular events.

If you bring a laptop and log in to the UT on your travels, I guess you could say the Flying Castle is along for the ride.

The internet is weird this last few days.

I've been having problems too, mostly internally on sites.
It's like the Chinese think we are too upset about our pets to notice it.
/tinfoil

You are traveling again?

Either that or he never really has to leave home.

Yah. ANd with my frequent-flyer status down to the lowest level. No first-class upgrades this year, and maybe no FF status next year. Well, lessee...
D.C. area 4/22-27
NW Connecticut weekend 5/19 (GMIL's memorial - passed on at 106)
Long Beach 1 week around 6/23
Somewhere (US) 1 work-week, Sept/Oct, maybe Atlanta

Depending on how things go (travel budget & corporate permission), none, one or two of:
Somewhere (US) Sept/Oct/Nov. 3 days
Stuttgart, 3 days, late Oct
Cairo, Egypt, 3 days, early Nov

And did I mention the MP3 player is going south? Earphone jack of all things. Going to try some surgery on it later, but last I looked they were sealed modules. If it doesn't work, it becomes a bit of an expensive 40G USB backup drive.

Oh, you're along for the ride all right. Would you like the middle seat? Of course you would. *\;-)

I agree.

More bitter sweet chocolate and less bananas.

Ok, i'll make a tradeoff - replace the bananas for strawberries, and more chocolate, of course.

Now, that is heaven!

While there is probably a kit or two available to make a Murphy bed out of whatever you have, most any competent carpenter should be able to cobble something together for you.

Consider using gas-filled cylinders, normally used to hold up carhoods and minivan tailgates, as part of the assembly to balance the load.

One thing you must make absolutely sure about, that when the bed is stowed it is securely stowed, and won't fall out on you. Even using common barrel-bolt latches is not a bad solution.

Also, think about how you will use the space made available. Maybe a nice fold-down table or writing surface.

If you want to add seating, you can put on it a fold-down bench, with support legs turning out like the support for a table leaf.

Lots of ideas for making more space. A friend of mine used the side supports as extra storage.

Replace the bananas AND strawberries for raspberries, and you may just have something good!!

I keep checking sites with Murphy beds, and some of them have some really excellent ideas.

I just need to be able to move from A to B without having to weave in and out of other obstacles. Like other furniture.
