For my radical views, ask me about the Education Department.

If you don't believe in the abolition of government run schools, your views aren't radical enough.

They don't need abolition, they need competition.

It's astonishing to me that we have less choice, here in America, about the education of our children than we have about purchasing footwear.

If you ever want to demonstrate the failures of Socialism, Public Education is one of the best examples.

The reason I want to see the government severed from public education is that there is no way, especially in todays political climate, to separate it from political influences. Public education is now indoctrination. It's no fluke that all the education unions are controlled by hardcore leftists.

For what it's worth, when I was 14, four of us went up one of the nearby canyons for a wiener roast one morning in June. We went up past the blacktop and soon saw patches of snow beside the road.

About 10 minutes later, we saw patches of snow in the "road." Having the arrogance of youth, the driver said not to worry, he could handle it. The car got high-centered on the snow.

Instead of walking two miles back to the ranger station, we decided to cut off cross country, heading downhill and following the sound of water.

When night fell, we were still heading downhill, beside a small creek. We kept going, looking for a level place where we could rest. HAH! It was cold, we were hungry, we were scratched all to pieces, our clothes were torn, and all night, we listened to mountain lions calling each other.

There was no way we could warm up, either. We all had summer clothes on, and no jackets.

We finally made it out of the canyon the next morning around 11:00 but we were in the town south of where we left. Needless to say, I'm awfully glad we didn't have to put up with the media. It was NOT an "adventure."

I could take 100 pupils, pay the teachers 80,000 to 100,000
per year, and top all the public schools in testing in one year.

Exactly. My vote is for 100% privatization. Private tuition, or private charity. (I'd accept a state- or local-level means-tested voucher, only because that would be Constitutional and locally funded.)

I was literally raised in the mountains. You learn things. Some lessons are easy, some less so. I decided after that that I was going to learn how to survive if I ever got caught in something like that again.

So I was a "Boy Scout." I used to check out the magazines at the library and read themc cover to cover. :o]

I especially like the pink underwear idea, and the fact that he spends more on his dogs than he does the inmates. Works for me!

It's amazing how the left is almost violently opposed to corporate monopolies, yet they will defend almost to the death government monopolies in public education. The government, in all of it's various forms, contracts out almost every government service. AAA now does most of what can be done at DMV here in California--why???? Because it's more efficient and costs less. Why can't the same be done for public education???? Where is it written in stone that government services MUST be provided by government employees?
