My brother and his wife took off for the Bay Area this morning. They said it was just too hot in Mesa. *snort* Actually, they went to visit the oldest sibling. I think she just turned 80...but don't quote me.

Asimov was a good guy(in spite of his liberalism).
He was a neighbor of mine when I was a kid. He loved to have us over to talk about science.

In some states, it's common practice to charge for rescue services, like charging for ambulance services.

I didn't know that. Maybe they will bill someone ... hopefully not the BSA, although the BSA has insurance.

I guess the rescue services have to get reimbursed somehow. It's for sure taxes don't always cover the cost of extended searches.

A few years ago, Henderson was trying to get a bond passed to hire more police, fire and rescue workers. It was voted down.

The next day, the Henderson chief of police got on TV and said, "We'll handle the 911 calls in order or severity, since we don't have the men to cover such a large area."

The next time the bond was up for a vote, it passed.

"He loved to have us over to talk about science."

Asimov had a very personable style about his writing. I felt as if I knew him too.

His non-fiction was as entertaining as his fiction, if not more so.

It's been ugly today: wind, overcast, rain in the forecast...73 degrees.

Suckers. They always use that ploy.

It's been June Gloom here for the last few days...I hate it when the weather is like that. It makes me mad that we get all the conditions for rain, but no rain. I wish it would rain like he!! and get it over with, and then back to the sunny weather.

Hello SJB!

Governments know what priorities the people want attended to; those are the ones they threaten to cut.

I just checked. It will fit as a tagline, with a little editing ...

"Governments know what priorities the people want. Those are the ones they threaten to cut."

The LA county sheriff has been releasing jail inmates early because he says he doesn't get enough money--it clearly is a political ploy, since he won't give up his county airplane (there's so many places to fly to in LA, ya know).

I have personal knowledge that the good sheriff is a crook, and it will end up in the LA Slimes within the next year.
The Slimes may not wanna print it, but it will end up there, anyway : )

If it were up to me, I'd make Police Department budgets dependent on the crime rate, and not in the way you might think.

I'd give them more money when the crime rate went down, and cut their budget when it went up.

For my radical views, ask me about the Education Department.

That doesn't surprise me. The guy is a slimeball--a typical politician. Sad that he's the highest paid public official in the country.

I am for school vouchers so that every student can choose where they are educated. Radical enough?
