I would like to get permission to post a question to other Freepers. TY.
Off to chase some grasshoppers!!!
I don't know how accurate this is, but the information is believable. I'd be curious to know if it really happened. Both events. Anyone?
****
Thought you might be interested in this forgotten bit of information from 1987.
At a lecture an old news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration was being played.
There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning! He was being drilled by a senator;
Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"
Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."
The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"
"No, sir," continued Ollie.
"No? And why not?" the senator asked.
"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."
Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.
"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.
"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"
"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.
At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.
"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie answered.
"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.
"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."
The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.
That senator was Al Gore.
Also:
Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners." However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands.
The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released. Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified.
It was censored in the US from all later reports.
If you agree that the American public should be made aware of these facts,
pass this on.
IIRC, it was Abu Nidal, not Osama, that had threatened Lt. Col. North.
Yupper, I have seen this before. Too bad someone did not listen. Al Gore, was thinking Green at the time and has not gotten his mind off it.
Double-checked it and Snopes says "False".

I didn't watch much of the Ollie North hearings, but I can remember being outraged that he was put forth as a sacrificial lamb to further the cause of the D-Rats.
Now, of course, I'm outraged by everything they are doing. Especially trying to stop FOX News from broadcasting ANY news.
Well, it was a good story for a bit.
COOL! Thanks! It seemed a little too "good" to be true. Now: What about the Mohammed Atta thingy?
free dixie,sw
It wasn't Osama, it was Abu Nidal. I heard North give an interview about it awhile back.
Huh! I hadn't known that!!
It seems inconclusive, but the reigning opinion is that there's likely more than one "Mohammed Atta" in the universe, and that the 'Atta' imprisoned in Israel, and set free during the Clintoon Monarchy as part of 'Oslo', is NOT the same 'Atta' we all know about from 9/11.
MAYBE, PROBABLY, LIKELY it's two different guys, though there is still SOME possibility that 9/11 Atta was, in fact, the former Israeli prisoner.
Thanks! (Again!) I get these things, and as always, I'm asked to pass them on, but some are just a little "too convenient."
So I post them here, hoping someone will refute them. I don't like passing around garbage!
So thanks again!
Thanks! It's good to know my FRiends are informed!

OOPS!
CORRECTION: Clintoon did NOT have a Monarchy; he was head of an ALL-LEG-ARCHY.
I remember I was stationed in Tustin during North's hearings. Very little work got done; we were all down in the Ready Room watching the hearings on TV.
And cheering every time he or his attorney threw a zinger at the panel. (Remember the "I'm not a potted plant" comment?)
Monarchy / Monica ... An understandable confusion.
Finland. Wine. Grasshoppers. Some conceptually deep stuff going on here on St. Urho's day.
Yeah, I thought grasshoppers were a more modern drink invention.
