"Superscripts are often (not always) rendered in a smaller font."

I am typing on a 1970 IBM Selectric Composer and can't figure out how to create superscript.

It's true that New Years would constitute a problem, what with the normal weekday pattern being interrupted by a Friday, Saturday, World Day, Sunday, Monday pattern.

Believe me, this is a problem. Come Sunday, an awful lot of "devices" are going to think it's Monday and act accordingly.

And every four years, that would be even further confused by a Friday, Saturday, World Day, Peace Day, Sunday, Monday pattern to accommodate leap year.

Even worse. On "Peace Day" and "Sunday," a lot of devices (and buildings) are going to be on weekday behavior, and remain on that throughout the year, at least until corrected. (Think strip malls...)

If you consider it, this is actually less intrusive than the twice annual change of our clocks for Daylight Savings Time, (Not that that would go away, but that's another issue).

Actually not. An uncorrected DST deprives one of the advantage of "optimum start" (getting the building to "comfort" temperatures at the time when occupants are expected to arrive), but the effects of applying "presumed unoccupied" on normal weekdays are much more significant (not to mention "optimally starting" workspaces on weekends). In most cases today it only affects comfort, but in the near future it will affect energy consumption and pricing considerably.

A change such as this needs to be well advertised years in advance, just like (or better than) the impending demise of your common analog TV (sets) in.. what.. two years?

The year 2006 started on a Sunday. It would have been a good place to start.

We needn't wait for the rest of the world. They'll never agree anyway.

I agree, some programming changes would be needed. It shouldn't be insurmountable.

The real question is whether any advantages would accrue. While it would be more logical, and easier to remember, that is true of the Metric System too, and yet it has its objectors for some obscure reason.

My dear wife is an example. She doesn't want to adapt to the Metric System.

"What system do we have now?" I asked her.

"I don't know, but I don't want to change from it."

She has no idea how many feet there are in a mile, or how to even figure out how many pints are in a gallon, but she likes it.
