George C Scott and Marlon Brando have both indicated that the Oscars is a long drawn out boring event and pretty much a hassle to attend.
I suspect that the only reason that Eddie even bothered attending was because he had a nomination.
I myself haven't watched the Oscars in years, decades even, it's boring and painful to watch.
I'd probably leave too.

I'm with you. You don't win, you leave early to avoid the rush.

While many of the nominees are incredible actors it's quite something else when they have to be themselves. The clothing supplied is usually hideous, their comments on the red carpet prove they're empty shells until they have a director helping them act a part.
The magic of the silver screen is lost when we see these people at the Oscars.

I haven't watched the Oscars in 30 years. I found that I didn't care who won. I didn't care seeing which starlet was with which star or wearing whatever dress. I particularly didn't like the creeping left wing politics of the Oscars.
Eddie Murphy's movies (most of them) are funny. I enjoyed Beverly Hill's Cop, but he still irritates me and his vile humor is awful.

He peaked with Patton. Is it really so hard to sit through this thing one time, smile graciously and say thank you when you win? Movie making is very much a group effort and Scott's Oscar reflected well on the entire cast and crew. And his snub was an insult to all of them, IMHO.
As for Brando, well, he was just nuts.

Heck, I left right after the announcement of my category, too.
Wait . . . I wasn't nominated.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?
