The hospital was in the old SS headquarters.

Wow the history that was made in that building is enough to give you chills.

Dog, my first apartment was across from the old Olympic swimming hall. My second was on Martin Luther Strasse, down which all demonstrations marched on their way to John F. Kennedy Platz.

In 1968 a great deal of Berlin was still rubble. I can still remember driving by ruined apartment buildings. Templehof Airport, where much of the Air Force contingent was stationed, was shaped like a giant German eagle when you saw it from the air.

Lots of history all around me. I did appreciate much of it, but as an Air Force wife a lot of my time was spent in caring for my son and figuring out how to survive on an enlisted man's pay.
