I have to purchase a truck based suv. I am looking for one that will lase at least ten years and give me good road handling and rugged to boot. I need a truck base because I have a rugged road to climb to get to my house.
I have beeen loooking at these two vehicles and would really like some input. If you have any others to recommend please chime in.
I am looking in the 30k or less range...and less is better.
We do have a Dodge minivan, and it's fine. They do minivans just fine.
Get the Toyota.
but you might want something a little bigger, look at either the Pathfinder or Armada
Heh Man, I drive a Jeep Grand Cheroke and love the car. No problems. This is my second Jeep. I strayed for awhile to a Lexus SUV. No one can compare to the Jeep.

My road ate my former minivan at 52k.
I bought my first Toyota in 1976. I have had NOTHING else since. Two Celicas and two Tacomas.
My last "American" car was a bomb called a Mercury Capri. Very fast and snappy. But everything CONCEIVABLE went on it from the battery to the transmission to the alternator to just about everything else - all in two years. They even mixed metic and standard screws in it.
Never had serious problems with the Toyotas. Put 130 miles on one clutch.
Just check out the Automobile reliability record in Consumer Affairs of any model you intend to buy. Some of them are made in America and not by the Japanese (sad isn't it - the people who made the U.S.S. Missouri and U.S.S. New Jersey and the Chance-Vought Corsair can't make a decent car anymore.)
The four cylinder Tacoma has a great rating - has a timing chain instead of a timing belt in the engine - the sixes are less reliable. The Tundra has a great reliability record. Don't know how well the SUVs stand up but the
Land Cruiser is one of the best if you can afford the cash and the gasoline. They also have a pricey hybrid available if you care about the ozone holes incinerating Arabia (I don't).
Did you have transmission or electrical problems with it?
The land cruiser is quite rich for this poor breadwinners blood. But nice.

Then check out some of the others - but look at the frequency of repair record for each model in Consumer Reports and check out their narratives on them.
The other automobile magazines rate cars purely on performance - which is nice - if they are running.
I prefer a mule to a racehorse. It might not get me there in style, but it will get me there.

There isnt a lot glass in the FJ compared to what I am used to in my SuV The RAV4 which was my original first pic is on a car base and I cannot have a car base vechile because of road conditions.

The first Grand Cheroke 1996 I had issues. Bought a new one in 2005 and I love it. No problems. It is heavy, does real well in snow, get's me where I want to be with no problemsl. I trust my Jeep and the dealer is great.
Strayed to a Lexus 300 after 1996 and I liked that one but crashed it into a tree when I bailed before it hit the tree. Very steep driveway down and it was snow covered and the Lexus would not stop so I bailed out. It was funny because I had Rush on the radio so when I bailed out of the car in the driveway, the car went down the hill Rush was still playing.

Find a red toyota SUV. Just CHECK CONSUMER REPORTS reliability records for the model you are interested in.
Got a 2006 Jeep Commander a year ago. Love it. Would recommend it to anybody.

Scarey at the time the wheels did not run over me. Lived through it and now it is funny. So many truck drivers and receivers in stores that I meet had a great laugh that I bailed out!
