Hmmm...good point. I guess my biggest frustration with the Bat movies is that they seem to be unable to settle on a leading lady; unlike Superman, who has Lois Lane, and Spider-Man, who has Mary Jane. Batman just can't seem to find one to stick with.

OTOH, maybe that's truer to the character himself--he can't commit to one woman because he's too obsessively committed to his dark double life.

And, bringing up James Bond is valid, too. In fact, with the last movie, I personally would have liked to have seen them do away with consistency and find someone other than Judi Dench as M...nothing against her, but her returning presence to a series reboot kind of seemed strange.

Yeah, the most recent Bond movie somewhat changed his character, but that's probably because it was something of a "prequel" to the Bond story -- he was a bit rougher around the edges, not as polished, not so fast with the puns, and not AS MUCH of a womanizer, which was OK by me. But I really liked "Casino Royale," and thought it the best since Connery. The old formula just wasn't working in the 21st Century. I liked the fact the Bond character was somewhat reinvented.

At this point, I'd much rather have Christian Bale as Batman than George Clooney, or [shudder] Val Kilmer.

I have read that Bond's original conception by Ian Fleming was more along the lines of Jason Bourne...a much tougher, darker character. Not to discredit Pierce Brosnan, but by the time the series had reached the last one...the one with Halle Barry (I couldn't possibly recount all the different titles), things had gotten pretty silly.

At this point, I'd much rather have Christian Bale as Batman than George Clooney, or [shudder] Val Kilmer.

LOL...the series can go on fine without Katie Holmes but Bale definitely needs to stay. Some others need to stay as well; Michael Caine and Gary Oldman were both excellent.

However, post-Begins, the casting drama has been very strange--rumors were flying over who would play the next Joker before Heath Ledger came out of nowhere and nabbed the role (and he was someone who no one had ever even speculated or thought of). After that, fanboy attention was turned to who would play Harvey Dent/Two-Face after David Goyer mentioned that the character would be in the sequel.

The "Who will be Two-Face" hype started in July, and the role was expected to be announced by September. Here it is midway through February, and we still don't know who Dent is going to be. Filming begins in a month...plus, the Katie Holmes news just came out, along with news that Morgan Freeman might not be returning. This has been a VERY peculiar casting story.

You make a good point -- the casting in "Batman Begins" was excellent. Casting Michael Caine was brilliant.

I did like Michael Keaton as Batman, Val Kilmer was ok.. George Clooney was horrible, however, I thought that Christian Bale was the best Batman...

The last Pierce Bond was just a combination of all of the Bond Movies combined..

George Clooney was horrible

Agreed, although I'd put just as much blame on director Joel Schumacher and his neon lights fetish.

Well, fortunately, he is returning. In fact, from the interviews with him I've read, he's very excited about the upcoming movie.

Hey, guys, coincidentally, not long after posting this, I just found out that Katie's character is going to be recast--she's going to be played by Maggie Gyllenhaal.

A couple of weeks ago it was reported on a lot of movie web sites that she was out by choice of the studios.

I'm cool with that. Maggie Gyllenhaal's a leftie, but she's also a pretty good actress. Loved her in Secretary.

Yeah, I saw her in World Trade Center. At first I was mad that such a vehement Hollywood leftie was going to be in a movie about the 9/11 attacks, but when I saw the movie I had to admit she did pretty good in the role.

Plus, she's a heck of a better actress than Katie!

I liked Maggie in World Trade Center too, I wonder if she can play still play sexy like in 'Secretary'

I never saw Secretary, but I heard a lot of good things about her performance...mainly from male viewers.
