Katie Holmes turns down 'Batman Begins' sequel
Washington, Jan 29 (ANI): American actress Katie Holmes will not reprise her role as Rachel Dawes in the 'Batman Begins' sequel 'The Dark Knight'.
Holmes' publicist said that "scheduling conflicts" were the reason why the actress would not be reprising her role.
She added that Holmes was busy negotiating for another project, when she was approached for the role.
"Katie was offered ['Dark Knight'] but was unable to accept the role because of scheduling conflicts. She was in the process of negotiating for another project," Glitterati quoted Julie Polkes, as saying.
Polkes also claimed that the actress wanted to deal with a different role when she returns to work.
"In addition, when she returns to work, she would like to tackle a new character," she added.
Warner Bros, the company that is financing the sequel has also confirmed that the 28-year-old actress has opted out of the film.
However, the new Mrs Tom Cruise is set to join Queen Latifah in Mad Money, a project being financed by Nu Millennium and Granada.
Written by Glenn Gers, the script is based on British film 'Hot Money' revolves around three female employees of the Federal Reserve who plot to steal money that is about to be destroyed.
"(Katie) is ready to go back to work and will be available to support any movie she is a part of, as she has done consistently in her career," her publicist added.(ANI)
Batman is just SO thetan.
Hire some other actress. No one will notice the change.
Maybe Tom was jealous of the Bat-like Thetan.
I hate inconsistency in movie sequels, but you're probably right.
She played a total Lib in the movie.
Yeah, but there were early rumors that her character might get killed off in the sequel. And we would have had that to look forward to!
A dark, muscular male with a secret life where he puts on a tight black leather suit and cruises the city looking for bad men...? I don't think Tom would be 'jealous,' exactly...
It wouldn't surprise me if she was asked not to return and part of the negotiation was that everyone would claim it was her choice.
The studio has to know that having KH in the sequel the way she's regarded today would kill it.
Actually, you raise a pretty good point. The story of her "turning down" came from HER camp. To my knowledge, the studio or director hasn't made any comment on it.
I'd say it's very possible that, considering the negative reviews her performance got combined with the crazy antics of her and TC,she simply wasn't asked to come back.
Absolutely. Just like Kate Bosworth's version of Lois Lane, another snippy little lib out or her league.
Yeah, no kiddin'. At least they look about the same age now, though.
Katie looks like she has definately adopted the the Sci-tol 'glaze'...
The Dark Lord Xenu is pleased.
Jealous OF her is probably more like it! :)
I'll bet he wants to get cast as Robin...
I know what you mean, but consider two successful franchises: What have there been...five Batman films with four different actors? Christian Bale is by far the best. And how many actors have played Bond?
