OK, labradorite isn't really luminescent, but it's famous for it's optical effects. The image below is reduced in size; click for a full-size look.

Lokibob pinged me to this strange ice behavior; it's even got a name -- "ice shove" or "ivu".

Of course, finding lumps of frozen methane ice on the seafloor is even "cooler" .....

I have been "into" making jewelry lately, so I have a whole new appreciation for unusual minerals. (And a whole new category of things to want to acquire, LOL!)

LOL - I've been into *buying* jewlery lately. I found a store in southern NM that has a buyer with exquisite taste. Semi-precious stones and silver work in Navajo, Zuni, et al styles. Which is funny, because I'm not a big jewelery person. It's all about the stones for me.
