Newly released documents reveal that Microsoft executives were awed by Apple's future operating system features, saying that the it may not be able to achieve Apple's innovation levels and acknowledging future, similar Windows Vista features would be directly compared with Mac OS X. Confirming earlier reports that Vista development was inspired by Tiger, Techweb reports that internal Microsoft email messages from 2004 reveal that company evangelists and executives were awed by Apple's Spotlight desktop search and acknowledged that what they did in Windows Vista would be directly compared with Mac OS X. The messages, the report claims, were filed as evidence in an Iowa state court trying a Microsoft antitrust case and contained message from several company evangelists and executives, including Jim Allchin, the head of Windows development efforts at the time.

It has become apparent that Bill Gates has no idea what is going on in his own company or the rest of the industry. He is surrounded by sycophants who are afraid to tell him the truth. Some of his recent statements about Vista and Apple are so deranged, he seems to be on the verge of psychotic breakdown.

When Gates finally learns the truth about how poorly Vista compares to Mac OS X, he could snap. He'll put on diapers and a wig, and drive non-stop to California to murder his rival.

My wife bought a cheap Windows laptop last night at Best Buy. Vista is a nightmare. I laugh at the window that pops up constantly that asks for permission before you do almost anything. Makes me think of the Mac/PC guy commercials you see on TV. And when you finally figure out how to shut off the security that enables the warnings, you get constant reminders that it isn’t on.
It also isn’t a very snappy system. Kinda sluggish. It will get better I am sure. But it is not very good on a sub $1000 notebook.
We love our three Macs (eMac, G4 iMac flat panel, G5 iMac) more than ever now. But we needed a laptop for traveling and my wife would not let me spend another $1300+ on a new MacBook. So, I will give the PC one credit where due, they are cheap.
