'Girls can be hot and be in engineering'

Miss January -- wearing only a G-string thong -- says she likes tattoos and Harley Davidsons. Miss July -- appearing in pink lingerie and a lab coat -- says she likes going to the beach but also the book
Anna Karenina. Miss February likes taking naps, live music -- and "fun science demos." Like a Playboy pinup collection, this 2007 calendar features a dozen scantily clad models. But these students at the University of Illinois aren't your typical models.
The women in the "Girls of Engineering" calendar were accepted to the Downstate campus' nationally ranked engineering program, where students on average scored a 31 on the ACT college entrance exam and graduated in the top 12 percent of their high school classes.

I remain convinced girl geeks are like unicorns. Mythical creatures. As you say, you'll see them as freshmen. Young, attractive women who start out in demanding college majors quickly realize they don't need to - even if they have big IQ's they have many, many other, more straightforward options available to guarantee their future financial security than suffering through years of school. The ones who do stick with the programs tend to come from traditional cultures (China or India) where education is prized and they are getting family pressure to keep at it.
But men and ugly women have no access to such options and need to make money, so they stick with it. ;)

There are attractive girls in engineering classes, just not too many of them. I remember being stunned at the number of babes in English classes and such.
