This thread now open to Microsoft jokes and flames. ;-)

It's been almost 3 minutes. What's the hold up?

Yes, uninstall it. If it doesn't work/update what good it is?

It's gotten to the point where your choices are:
1. delete rubbish files from folders and the registry
2. reinstall Windows and start over
I don't bother with Defender -- it's useless

Maybe I would just be better off to uninstall Windows Defender?Yes.
There are plenty of free alternatives.
Spybot Search & Destroy (TeaTimer) is an old favorite.
More recently, I've been looking at Spyware Terminator. Check out the features. Among other things, it integrates the open-source ClamAV.
Posts regarding it at the Spywarewarrior.com forum are positive. It certainly looks promising.

I had this issue with the Word reader. Eventually I just ignore it.
Windows Defender hasn't updated right in a while either, I try uninstalling and reinstalling but I have 3-4 spyware programs so I don't pay too much attention anymore.

You may as well uninstall Windows Defender, it sucks anyway. I recall having a similar issue with Windows Update doing the same thing on Outlook Express, and I didn't even have that POS email program installed. It eventually stopped doing it over time. I'm not sure why it stopped flagging it for update.

Notwithstanding the obvious jokes and flames, here's a serious post.
What you are getting are virus definition updates. All AV products update their virus definitions as new virii emerge. MS is just providing you with the most up-to-date information that they have.
This is a good. thing, and you are not experiencing any problems with this.
