I am NO fan of Jefferson, be advised. Here's a few:
Affairs of Honor: National Politics in the New Republic (Paperback)
by Joanne B. Freeman "When the American republic sprang to life in the spring of 1789, many were disappointed..." (more)
Key Phrases: New York, Aaron Burr, Thomas Jefferson
Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation (Paperback)
by Joseph J. Ellis
O, neither am I! I tell you, the more I learn about this man...
I remember that insight by Forrest McDonald who said (in effect) that today's image of Thomas Jefferson was born and carefully nurtured during, and for, the FDR administration. So much so that today's version of Jefferson would be "unknowable" to those who knew the real Jefferson. IMHO, he is a liberal icon, par excellence
