I was surprised that CBS seemed to have such a difficult time handling the rain during the game. It seemed to me that their 50 yd line primary camera was most affected, with water drops on the lens during much of the game, as well as a foggy picture for whatever reason. Other cameras had the same problems.
Did they not know it was going to rain, or even that there was a chance of rain? Don't they have covers for the lenses of those high dollar cameras, or at least they could have had an intern (or maybe Katie Couric) wiping off the water every minute or so? Seriously, I have seen many sports events televised in the rain and they typically figure out how to broadcast a better picture than what we had to endure last night.
The other frustration was that there were cameras that seemed more clear, yet the director would stick with the watered up lens. Really struck me as odd considering they probably spent a little bit of money broadcasting the biggest sports event in the USA.
Must be a budget crunch at the communist broadcasting network...
CBS had Dan Rather with a squee-gee going camera to camera. Big place, lots of cameras.
They were filming through gauze...in a failed attempt to make Rex Grossman look better.
Pro sports have lost their luster (to me), with the business-aspect having taken over the competitive nature. Players no longer stay with a team long-term, but simply job-hop for the millions and there are few of them that would even qualify as role models or heroes today, with their arrogance and hip-hop/rap mentality.
I thought maybe they were expecting Cybill Shepherd to walk into the frame.
But you're right, the TV coverage s-u-c-k-e-d. Almost as much as Grossman &%#@$ &$#@ $@#&*
(If I was GM I would have made him WALK back to Chicago, and he'd be CUT today!)
Yeah, it was like watching old Star Trek reruns.
Lens and camera covers get water on them as well. The purpose of a cover is to protect the equipment, not to give you a perfect waterproof picture.
Seeing the water spots made me thankful I didn't spend thousands to go to Miami and sit in the rain. It was more akin to watching a Chicago-Buffalo game in freezing snow, while I sit in front of a warm fireplace watching.
I was laughing thinking how those wet lenses looked on someones' brand-new $10K HDTV screen.
Yeah, what was up with that? It was my thoughts exactly. The biggest sporting event of the year and they couldn't keep water off the lenses? I kept thinking that they were going to fix it. Were they actually watching the feed? I'll bet the NFL isn't going to be very happy about the quality of the picture.
I was watching the SciFi Channel...
Great replies all around. I laughed with you because I went over to a friends' house to watch it on his high def projection TV. 200 inch image on a wall in his house, and everything except the #$&**#!! football game was crystal clear!
The cameras at the "Puppy Bowl" on Animal Planet seemed much better.
Rain was in the forecast although most rain storms in Florida are intense in rainfall but short in duration. SeeBS has broadcast AFC games for years so they are quite familiar with the local conditions at the fish bowl. Too bad about all those fans who spent a small fortune to be there (hehehehehe). Anyway, it was SeeBS ... what did you expect?
Bowl cam was cool. Yes, it had the wet look, but by design.

Sorry for the double.
Can you give me some specifics about his set up?
I'm about 3 mos. away from completing our new family room, and a clear 200 in. picture intrigues me. I don't know if I would care for a projecter, but I want to check all options before I lay out bucks for my big screen. I'd rather hear from those who've used it than from online "reviews" you never know if they are employed by the manufacturer or not.
Thanks,

You had strange timing to decide this was the year to quit watching. We had two of the classiest teams, organizations and coaches playing in the Super Bowl this year. We didn't see any "creative" touchdown celebrations and showboating last night by either team.
Secondly, the job-hopping in the NFL has as much to do with salary caps as it does player selfishness. I like the parity the salary cap has brought and the Colts have found a way to still keep their key players who have been there long-term.
