KQDS/Duluth drops liberal talk
Listeners in the Twin Ports got a rude awakening this morning when they turned on the radio expecting to hear Sam Seder, but instead heard golden oldies. In a surprise move, KQDS in Duluth-Superior, which had been airing Ed Schultz and programs from Air America Radio for the past year and a half, has dropped liberal talk for oldies music...There was one rumor claiming that oldies was only temporary, and that a FOX 'News'-style conservative talk format would be the permanent format, but nothing else out there would give credibility to this rumor...
As for the reason for the switch, Weve had some calls claiming we did this for political reasons, Red Rock general manager Shawn Skramstad said. There was no political motive. This was strictly a business decision. We didnt see the advertising dollars we need. Skramstad said Red Rock received a fair number of calls from listeners disappointed with the decision to pull the liberal talk programming.
Meanwhile in George W Bush's birthplace of New Haven CT

buh bye Air America in Duluth & New Haven!
Air America Signing Off in Duluth MN and New Haven CT ... Will anyone notice? If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound?
If they can't survive in Duluth and New Haven, where CAN they survive?? Where do all these liberal voters come from when there is no sign in the free market that they actually exist?????
They will be back on the air as soon as the Dems pass the 'Unfairness Doctrine'. The only way they can stay on the air is if we, the people, are paying for the air time (NPR).
Yup, another one bites the dust! (Boston conservative host Howie Carr does a "death pool" and he plays this whenever a celeb who's been picked in the pool passes on)
In Boston Air America gave way to Spanish music on Dec 21
and an effort is underway to bring it back in 'The blue-est
city in the blue-est state'
A book I read called "Something in the Air" talked about how there have been protests over the years when the only station carrying a given format gives it up for something else (...more profitable) and people complain to the FCC
saying "they aren't serving the public interest". But in
1981 the Supreme Court ruled that stations, provided
they do the proper paperwork and serve the community
in some way, can AIR WHAT THEY PLEASE and don't step in.
If a station gives up prog talk to do something more
profitable, they can.
Compare this to Canada where, I believe, the government has to approve every format change.
In the US there are many options. If "prog talk" is gone
from your community you can get it on satellite radio--
or NPR...
>>and don't step in.
(oops, I meant the FCC doesn't step in...)
>>if they can't survive in Duluth and New Haven, where CAN they survive??
From NonStopRadio.com, a site where prog talk fans rally
'round the Franken, boys, rally round the Franken (oops,
he's gone on Feb 14):
"(Duluth MN): The owner of the the only Progressive Talk outlet (in a city that votes heavily Democratic each and every election) terribly neglected it, not even deigning to put up the most rudimentary website-- its fans put together a MySpace page so they had an online gathering point."
As for New Haven, Kerry was a Yalie... :) (as was W,
and W had a higher GPA!)
(note the call letters of their sister station,
conservative talker WELI, as in ELIhu Yale...)
Ha! What a "Catch 22" eh :)
>>Listeners in the Twin Ports got a pleasant awakening this morning
They should have had a "stunt" where they would play The Ballad of the Green Berets for several hours on end. Take
that, libs!
From BoreAmerica.com, "listening to Air America so you don't have to":
Fun: the $35 prank for Air America listeners you know
Kids! Adults! Want to play a fun, harmless prank on your favorite Air America listener? (Of course, there's about a .000001% chance that anyone you know is an Air America listener, but read on just in case).
What if you could spend just $35... and make that listener think Air America had gone off the air? It wouldn't be that big of a shock, because they've probably already been expecting it. So, after you reveal the jolly jape you played on them you can both have a hearty laugh and they can go back to listening to Randi Rhodes screech at them.
OK, are you ready for the fun?
All you need to do is get this kit (links to a Ramsey
Electronics AM Transmitter hobby kit). Then, attach its input to a tape loop playing "We're sorry, but this Air America station has gone off the air. Join us next week for Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Michael Savage, and The Best of Tony Snow." Or, simply connect it to the output of another radio station set to your local Fox News or oldies station. Then, tune the transmitter to the frequency of your local Air America affiliate and place it near the "mark"'s radio. Then, just sit back and watch the fun, as they have an emotional breakdown while frantically posting to DU.
Bonus tip! Video tape the event and upload it to Youtube.
What will they do without their daily dose of doom & gloom?
Turn out the lights, the party's over.
Will Al Franken be donning a Military Flightsuit and declaring: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED?
Cheering for us to lose the war to make Dems look good...
saying the economy is lousy...global warming...
stolen elections...9/11 conspiracies...
