I don't believe him for a minute. If Nifong really promised not to run for the office (which I doubt), it would seem to me that a man who breaks his word in that way should not have been supported in his run for office. If it was possible for Easley to "un-appoint" him, that would have been the time to do so. At the very least, he could have failed to support Nifong. I don't remember if Easley formally endorsed Nifong or not, but he certainly did not express any reservations about him. It's just another example of the NC Democrat party "good ole' boy network.

You forgot to mention Erskine, and probably Edwards, in the 'good ol' boys' network pandering for their plantation vote.

He should have, absolutely, removed Nifong when he started making public statements about the players. When there was no positive DNA match that Nifong could point to that proved a link from the players to the "victim" the Governor HAD to move. He didn't. I think, as others do, that he didn't want to embarrass a fellow Democrat. But, now, the Governor, and a whole lot of others are thoroughly pissed at the Fong, and they are livid with him because of the heat he brought on them all.

If you think dims are the only ones who promise not to run and then do, I would point you to the most Conservative, Republican member of the Texas House, Charlie Howard. He promised he would run 4 times and leave before retirement benefits kicked in at 10 years. He is now in his 5th or 6th term.

There was a great deal of information demonstrating Nifong's malfeasance in the case long before the election.
I don't believe this lying SOB Easley for a minute.
