In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
pellucid \puh-LOO-sid\, adjective
1. Transparent; clear; not opaque.
2. Easily understandable.
Example sentences:
The prevailing atmosphere as one cruises Kukulcan Boulevard, the busy strip where most of Cancun's 122 hotels are clustered, remains that of an Orlando or a Las Vegas dropped intact next to pellucid Caribbean waters.
-- Larry Rohter, "What's Doing in Cancun.", New York Times, March 8, 1998
In her scrupulous and pellucid prose, she appears to distance herself from the optimistic Californian light.
-- Cynthia Ozick, "What Writer's Writers Write.", New York Times Magazine, January 2, 2000
Etymology:
Pellucid comes from Latin pellucidus, "shining, transparent," from pellucere, "to shine through," from per-, "through" + lucere, "to shine."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Good for you. Here's your A.
I think the people at the Weather Channel are smoking crack. It's in the upper 30s here and dry! A for you! Our hockey team is in your state tonight. Be nice to them, they had a rough ride in Colorado. ;)
Everybody else is getting the snow we covet!
Take Chanel around the house, and get ahead of the class. You know getting a dog to sit is easy. You just lightly pinch the back of his hind area and say "sit" just once. Voila. You may get a straight A student in Chanel!
I did that with the Great Dane, but I had to work him hard because he was so big. As I told you before, he came in first in two doggie training classes. Pounding my chest. LOL!
I didn't get home in time to go walking in the woods, but the sun finally came out just about 20 minutes ago, so that was okay-
The more queen Hillary talks
The more obvious it has become
Just how pellucid her motives are
And how she thinks we're dumb
And I don't have a fuzzy feeling
About GOP hopeful McCain
I think that he's vainglorious
And possibly not quite sane
Then there's Rudy from New York
Who is a conservative only in name-
With his trophy wife as first lady
He'd have no credibility or fame
Agh! How did part of a sentence from an e-mail to a friend get in my tag line?
I'll give them the Hockey Prayer.
May your puck hit my stick
And may my stick puck it into your net.
Amen.
How's that?
Husky girl was taught to sit that way, with a treat as a reward-and she rushes into the kitchen and sits right down on the floor in front of me the instant she hears the rattle of a treat bag or box...
It is 62 outside and partly cloudy-it has been weeks since it was that warm here-but there is another cold front due Saturday-no snow or ice predicted, though.
I was going to cut up some of the tree limbs that had broken under the load of snow and ice from the storm at the front of the property, but my damned chainsaw won't stay started no matter how I adjust the choke. I guess I'll go through the local yellow pages and try to find a lawn equipment repair place closeby-the one we used to use is 30 miles away in SA...
there are salt trucks with plows parked along the beltway at various points. sure to scare the snow away!
oh we know what to do as far as training her, this is more of a socialization class for her. loosh and darby each did this particular class at our vet's ofc and it is just a fun thing to do.
LMAO too bad it wasn't juicier than that!! ; )
Argh, please assure us that you aren't going to afflict us with Pellagra tomorrow.
Very good. A+. I was going to use vainglorious last week as the WFTD.
Short and pithy, it should work. :-)
arghy is on sabbatical and vasty will be subbing for him tomorrow, which reminds me to remind VAST of his volunteering for said task!
Thanks. I'll try and find a "Friday" word in addition to the official word.
we need some lewd ; )
Thank you! Hubby and I were watching "Rome" Monday evening, and the Marc Antony character is as self centered and obnoxious as history says the real person supposedly was. After watching one of his tirades, hubby said he just about couldn't come up with a word to describe Antony, and I said how about vainglorious ass****? I really described him to a "T", I thought...
