I have just stopped watching the latest downloaded 24 episode, a program that I've loved for years. What a load of bull!
The villain is a conservative hardliner and his toadie in the White House. Meanwhile the heroines are a very sexy Muslim, an ardent civil rights attorney, and a Hillary look/act alike.
YET . . . Rush KNEW this after the first airing and still advised his audience to keep watching because he really couldn't see anyliberal/politically correct shift. He says he is totally oblivious to viewing politically types/slants while watching 24????
After that first 24 this season, I couldn't understand the brouhaha of his conservative audience.
No wonder he was wined and dined by the producers -- he's a good firewall to insulate the show from conservative complaints.
If you don't like getting inane comments, then refrain from making inane comments.
The sexy Muslim is a Republican. The civil rights attorney is a twit. And actually, it's more a Karen Hughes look alike, don't you think?
Egged on by Earl Warren --who was a Pub but still a lefty.
Are you in high school?
LOL!!! Good comeback!
I think I'll save that one and use it myself a few times.
LOLOL!!!!!
I think there is an upcoming plot twist with her, the way the guy who looks like a sleazy porno movie producer just logged her in with his password, nothing good can come of it. But who will end up being the villain? I hope it's the sleazy looking porno producer guy. I can't wait for Jack to torture him!
Just CONTRIBUTE to the dialogues here on the forums without throwing that in. You can do it every time, in some manner, when someone makes a criticism.
I never told you not to watch it. Here are my original comments:
You do know it's a TV show with lots of twists, turns, and those other things...Oh yes, cliff hangers.
Remember last year it was the president who so vaguely resembles Richard Nixon had many conservatives who confuse 24 with real life thinking they had gone liberal.
Jack is torturing his own brother to get information to stop terrorist bombers, how much more anti-liberal could it be?
When CTU starts forcing Americans to convert to the Religion of Death to stop terrorist attacks, then maybe it might have gone over to the liberal side of things. But even then it will still only be a TV show.
:end quote
Where do I tell you not to watch it? I simply state it's a TV show. You're the one who feels compelled to come here and start a thread telling us what you don't intend to do anymore. How is that constructive? How is that not inane?
Then you tell another poster not to be inane when you start a thread that is inane. Then I point out to you that you probably would get less inane responses if you didn't make inane posts to begin with.
I shrug my shoulders.
I don't think I'm rationalizing these people's motives to fit a conservative agenda. I think the show does a good job portraying views from both sides.
To say that the presidents sister is a hero is silly. She was trying everything she could to prevent her friend from gathering intel on terrorists. Even with a warrant, she destroyed records to keep them from the FBI.
To get mad when a good show has a character which represents a side different from yours would be like refusing to vote for a politician because he only agrees with you 95% of the time.
It's all in the "Numbers".
I think we may be demanding far too much from the show. In the end, it's still entertainment, as one can tell by some of the types of dialog, such as this hypothetical line...
"Jack. The terrorists have surrounded the Superbowl and they probably have a suitcase with them. We need you to extract the disarming codes from Achmed here in the next 3 minutes. But first, you have to tell me if I look fat in this dress."
That said, it's a great show, and if it takes certain constructs like that in order to rope people in to see some brutal truths, so be it.
Sadly, I agree that could be true.
24 has never been a "conservative" show, just more balanced than anything else on the air. Unlike other Hollywood spy thriller-type entertainment, it doesn't shy away from the fact that Muslim fanatics figure largely in threats to the nation. After five seasons, the show is catching heat all of a sudden because Rush and other prominent conservatives have embraced it.
Remember when the just-passed season of Survivor was being pilloried because of the first episode's setup of four tribes divided along ethnic lines? The whole season was in the can when all the huffing and puffing happened, and CBS and the producers knew good and well the tribes would disband and reunite at random, eliminating the racial aspect. All the people threatening to boycott the show had egg all over their faces.
You would be wise to keep your powder dry until further developments in the story. It's only hour six for heaven's sake.
It's a TV SHOW!
Hello?, Hello,? Hello,?
"We need you to extract the disarming codes from Achmed here in the next 3 minutes. But first, you have to tell me if I look fat in this dress."
LMAO
The great thing about this show is you can't be sure about anything.
We 24 watchers all know that on 24, nothing is ever as it seems. The season has hardly even started, hang in there.
