am no Microsoft fan (Gentoo is my system of choice), but I do not think that that is an entirely fair assessment. They have been getting better over time. 95 was better than DoDOS (dark old DOS), 98 was better than 95, and XP was better than 98P>

I have had eight machines running XP here, and have NEVER seen a blue screen, even when running buggy ATI drivers.

Now, Windows ME was really just a pig in lipstick, hastily thrown together as a Millenium Marketing thing. The "Windows" in "Windows Me" was, IMHO, a VERB! hahaha.

I actually have a fossil laptop around somewhere that still runs it.

...buggy ATI drivers...

But you repeat yourself.

XP is, in my experience, the most stable version of Windows that Microsoft has released to date. I have managed to get the BSOD a few times: I took a laptop out of its dock without properly using the disconnect feature (my bad, admittedly) and a few random times when running it on VMWare server.

Now, Windows ME was really just a pig in lipstick,

Agree wholeheartedly. I hope I never have to use that OS again as long as I live.

Nah, WinME can run very nicely if tweaked right. 3 of our 4 boxes run it and BSODs are something we see a combined total of maybe 2, 3 times a year.

Only times WinME's ever given me real issues, it was always due to a hardware problem that later revealed itself...be it a failing hard drive, or a dying cpu fan causing minor overheating that got progressively worse, or iffy ram. Always worked right after the hardware issue was addressed, too.
