than what?........ According to Bill Gates...."dramatically more secure than any other operating system released".
Apparently he's never heard of Solaris or FreeBSD.

OH....Ubuntu....I always have trouble with that one....
wiki.ubuntu.com/install.
Summary
The installation of Ubuntu is a major barrier to its spread and use. This project aims to solve this problem by allowing installation from within Windows using an install.exe file, and eliminating the need to partition the hard drive or burn a CD to install. It will allow a faster and more user-friendly installation for Windows users, the ability to install without the risk of data loss through repartitioning, and the ability to install on ultra-portable laptops without CD drives.

f I didn't need Windows for a few games, and IE for one particular web app that I run from home occasionally, I'd go Linux in a heartbeat. You might want to do some reading here:
Crossover Linux
Depending on your needs, you might be switching to Linux sooner than later.
I intend to do so just as soon as I suck every scrap of juice from my XP installs. Not a dime for Vista.

the pricing of Vista, which is twice as expensive in Europe compared to the US. That might have something to do with the record $613 million envy fine Europe imposed on Microsoft in 2004, and their continued multimillion dollar fines since. I'm glad to see Europe's attempt to tax the world via Microsoft has failed. On top of the shelf price Europeans also have to pay a huge "value added" tax.

Linux is going to be available to run older computers when Microsoft stops support for XP
Which probably won't be too long, knowing Microsoft. Idiots.

Why didn't he just say, "Bring it on!"
It's like giving a four-year old a bowling ball, and saying, "You can't break this." -- and then you have to buy a new picture window.

am no Microsoft fan (Gentoo is my system of choice), but I do not think that that is an entirely fair assessment. They have been getting better over time. 95 was better than DoDOS (dark old DOS), 98 was better than 95, and XP was better than 98P> I have had eight machines running XP here, and have NEVER seen a blue screen, even when running buggy ATI drivers.
Now, Windows ME was really just a pig in lipstick, hastily thrown together as a Millenium Marketing thing. The "Windows" in "Windows Me" was, IMHO, a VERB! hahaha.
I actually have a fossil laptop around somewhere that still runs it.

Er, i meant a computer, not the os...
I could get it at a nice discount rate (being a college student)...
...but it's absolutely useless to me--and especially so given the fact that I don't have a working computer (typing this up in a computer lab)...

I know for a fact that top-level management at MS lies. When I worked there, Balmer showed a piece of recorded video as if it were live. He knew it wasn't live. He just wanted to wow the crowd he was speaking to.
