This reminds me of a story. ("OH NO!!!" they all think.)
Early in my time online, I had met some woman in a chat room. To be honest, she didn't impress me, but I was new at the web and happy to have any woman paying attention to me. We went to a private room or maybe just used instant messages. I forget exactly how we got to this point, but she wanted to engage in some kind of cyber date or outing together.
I wasn't quite sure what to do, but I decided to talk about the last vacation I had taken but just to insert her into the story. I was talking about my trip to the north unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. I talked about driving through the park and seeing the great rock formations along the way. I talked about the beautiful, clear, blue sky and the crisp fall air. I talked about the Little Missouri River and the cottonwoods that were golden yellow in their fall colors. I did the whole "Okay, here we are. Are you ready to take a little hike? What kind of granola bars do you want, maple and brown sugar or oats and honey? Nah, I've got the pack. How about you just take these binoculars?"
She was playing along, and I was feeling pretty good about how I was doing. Then she typed, "This stuff is really great. Are you reading it from a book or something?" I just typed "Excuse me?" She said, "Where are you getting all of this?" I told her that it wasn't from a book or anything but was my description of my last vacation except with her included. The hiking trip ended pretty quickly.
Wonder why the lady, who loved your storytelling when she thought it was "made-up" couldn't deal with the truth and, I thought, the clever way you included her in the "story"?
I like the story. She possibly was NOT into outdoor guys & more into "bedroom talk"..
All different kinds out there in the world Bill as you well know.
