Jakey is getting a baby brother! Feel free to give me name ideas, pure bred Standard Poodle, champion bloodlines, I got him here, http://www.parrishill.com/
I read you shouldn't take the biggest or smallest of the litter, but I also read how to "test" a puppy. Even though he's the smallest puppy he was relaxed when I held him, relaxed when I put him in the cruk of my arm and looked me in the eyes for a long time. He was alert and looked when I clapped and he was the only one who cocked his head to say "what" when I talked to him. He held his own with the other puppies without being too rambunctous. He allowed me to hold him out with no other support and didn't squirm and looked me in the eyes, he allowed me to put him on his back and played and swatted at my fingers. He did all the right things you want from a puppy except he was the "runt" of the litter. I was assured that there should only be a difference in height of all the puppies of about 2 inches anyway. I'll post more pictures when I get him in 3 weeks, in the interm I will visit and handle him as much as possible so that the move is less stressful for him. On to the pictures!
Testing...
Nah, pulse didn't even act. I must be getting old.
It's hard to tell from a picture, but the body shape reminds me of a Corgi.
A neighbor when I was a little girl had a standard white poodle named "Caniche". French for "poodle". Always liked that!
Yes, The father is a good looking poodle. But the bitch is pretty ugly. Sorry but she is by the pic.
______
That's my mother-in-law you're talking about my good sir! I shall now remove my white glove from my top coat and slap your face, thus denigrating your honor.
Should you choose to seek your satisfaction we shall duel with pistols of your choosing, gentlemen's rules.
P.S. For those of you who haven't seen the Stanley Kubrick film "Barry Lyndon" you should really seek it out.
P.S.S I wanted to meet the ugly bitch first, even though she was no more than 20 feet from her puppies when I greeted her she looked at me, I petted her and she licked my hand. I pulled her close to me against my legs and she leaned on my while I petted her. Not even my Jake is so accepting of a stranger. Give the girl a break, she just had 7 puppies, she's a little tired.
PSSS Name him Obama? When I was thinking about getting a puppy I was thinking about Reagan as a name, but Reagy sounds a little funny. I would name him Mark Levin but that would sound a little funny also.
Looks like they might have some jackrabbit in them too!
>But the bitch is pretty ugly. <
She's not in a show clip, she doesn't have a skilled handler posing her for the photo, and she just had puppies. Of course she isn't going to look like the puppies' father.
I think she looks like a sweet dog, a dog you could not begin to evaluate (show wise, at least) from that photo.
>I'm leaning more and more towards Sonny, my mother liked that one the best too.<
It's a nice name, especially if you aren't going to be showing the dog in obedience, for example (Sonny, sit, Sonny, stay, Sonny stand - all those "s" sounds).
I heard a story years ago about a fellow that had a series of dogs, all called Sonny for the males, and Sunny for the females. Pretty funny.
Awwww....Dogs...Rule.
I've had this old song running through my head since the name "Sonny" came up.
"Sunny"
Sunny
Yesterday my life was filled with rain
Sunny
You smiled at me and really eased the pain
Oh the dark days are gone and the bright days are here
My sunny one is shines sincere
Sunny, one so true
I love you
Sunny
Thank you the sunshine bouquet
Woah, sunny, thank you love that you brought my way
Oh now you gave to me your all and all
And now i feel like im ten feet tall
Sunny, one so true
I love you
( ...Sunny
Thank you for the truth that you made me see
Sunny
Thank you for the facts, from A to Z
My life was torn like a wind-blown sand
And then a rock was formed when we held hands
Now sunny, one so true
I love you ...)
Coincidentally, we were in a nightclub for the first time EVER a couple of weeks ago -- we're not clubbers by a long shot, but we went to hear a friend of ours play guitar in a pop/jazz band. This was the last song in the first set!
"Steadfast" is the word that comes into my mind when I see that clear, steady, calm look.
Or "Mr. Standfast" out of Pilgrim's Progress.
. . . she comes right at ya and full throttle.
I guess she's an alpha-female. Kind of like AlGore, but different.
I'm planning on visiting him again this weekend, I'll get the breeder to take some pictures of him and I together. I'll visit him as much as the breeder allows me to until I take him home.
You *gotta* name the little guy Elwood!.....:)
"V For Vendetta".....;D
He looks like a baby deer!
It's an Ibizan Hound and their name is "Podenco Ibicenco" in Spanish which means "dog with the airs of a deer"....:))
[and he's a she named Djinn]...;]
