Blown up Los Angeles and left the most productive part of the national economy crippled and hundreds of thousands dead.

The writer went too far. LA the "most productive part of our economy"? Don't make me laugh.

Suitcase nukes were designed to take out key bridges, and infrastucture to slow down an invasion, not take out a city.

If the Port of Los Angeles had to be closed for any length of time, whether due to radioactive contamination or whatever, it would be a huge blow to our national economy. Every company that is dependent on imports from China (like Wal-Mart) or exports to Asia would take a huge hit.
