Parcells retiring after four seasons in Dallas

Statement from Cowboys coach Bill Parcells

"I am retiring from coaching football. I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years. Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here.

"I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time. I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard."

Bellichick has not been back since Romeo and Charlie Weiss left. What is your point?

Yeah, but Romeo and Charlie Weiss haven't been there on their own.

Couple of other notes. Jimmy Johnson is NOT coming back to the Cowboys. He's rich, has a yacht in Miami and a gig on Fox Sports that pays him great for about fifteen hours of work a week. I absolutely do not think Johnson has ANY fire in his belly anymore.

My personal WTF? moment was when Norv Turner was suggested as the next coach.

One of the things I've noticed as coaches and quarterbacks get older, is that they take fewer risks. Vinnie Testaverde was talking about how as you mature as a quarterback, you learn to take what the defense gives you. I also noticed that Vinnie was completing a lot of five yard passes on third and eight. Coaches do the same thing. They get more conservative, and eventually they end up losing games because they get predictable.
