Parcells retiring after four seasons in Dallas
Statement from Cowboys coach Bill Parcells
"I am retiring from coaching football. I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years. Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here.
"I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time. I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard."
Maybe, but he and Parcells obviously clashed. I do not recall hearing Owens referred to by name in any conference Parcells held. I got the distinct feeling one would have to go to keep the other around.
Are you sure? With an 0-2 playoff record in 4 years? Even Barry Switzer managed to get the Cowboys a ring.
Jerry evidently made his choice.....good luck to the next coach who has to put up with Jones and his pet, T.O.
Rush's comments concerning McNabb are further vindicated by the media reaction you mentioned. I am waiting for the outrage over the lack of white halfbacks.
Hahah. TO wins and gets his roster bonus.
GO EAGLES.
I completely agree..if I hear one more time about "the first african-american coaches in the super bowl", I'm gonna SCREAM..I must heard it 50 times yesterday alone..
personally, I could care less what color the coach is, I just want wins (falcon fan here)..and you're right, we're supposed to be colorblind, but the media WON'T LET US BE..
He was shackled with that psycho T.O. and 'super star' Tony Romo finished Parcells due to his over 'MSM inflated ego' and had his head in dating hot chicks instead of football.
(if I was Romo I'd be hiding in a Guatemalan jungle about now)
I imagine he has a verbal agreement to be GM somewhere...the Giants allegedly turned him down for that job.
Sorry, but I don't buy into Parcells being a "great coach", although he was a very good coach. To me, so much of his hype was based on media myth. His Super Bowl wins were 16 and 20 years ago against Denver and Buffalo. Two teams that accounted for 7 of the 8 Super Bowl losses between 1987-1994. He had his time and took advantage of it, but those days are over.
Enjoy your retirement, Bill!
Parcells did the best he could with what he had. I wouldn't want to work for the Jones boys, they make it hard to be a Cowboys fan.
True, but how does any young quarterback go into a crazy hero-worshipping situation like being the Dallas Cowboys quarterback and maintain any sense of balance? That's right - the coach has to help him.
Otherwise, they should have just brought back an old, experienced hand...like Vinny Testaverde. ;)
Denny Green! Of course he'll be busy next week in Miami with the Chicago Bears, crownin' their asses!
I heard the news on the way to kaybugs' school...the local sports talk station is abuzz....with some of the hosts calling Parcells names..the I can't post on FR....LOL
That was my first thought: Jerry Jones must have told Parcells that T.O. would still be with the Cowboys next season.
