PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - Former POW Jessica Lynch became a mother on Friday, giving birth to a girl whom she named in honor of a fallen comrade.
Dakota Ann Robinson was delivered by Caesarean section at a local hospital at 5:10 p.m. The infant weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, said Lynch's publicist, Aly Goodwin Gregg.
"She's fabulous and fat," Gregg said. "She's beautiful."
Lynch and her boyfriend, Wes Robinson, named Dakota in honor of Lynch's friend, Army Spc. Lori Piestewa of Tuba City, Ariz., who was the first woman to be killed in combat in Iraq. Piestewa's middle name was Ann, and Dakota which means friendship or ally, Gregg said.
Lynch and Piestewa served together in the 507th Maintenance Company from Fort Bliss, Texas. They were roommates there and tentmates in Iraq. Piestewa died and Lynch was captured when their unit was ambushed on March 23, 2003, near Nasiriyah.
Lynch suffered two spinal fractures, nerve damage and a shattered right arm, right foot and left leg when her Humvee crashed during the firefight.
The story of her capture and dramatic nighttime rescue made her an instant celebrity. The 23-year-old Palestine native is now a sophomore at West Virginia University-Parkersburg. Gregg said she probably will take a semester off or take online courses.
While Lynch still has health problems, Gregg said she came through the C-section "like a champ."
"Jessie's doing great, the baby did great," she said. "She's easy to love, absolutely beautiful."
Yuppers!
Happy for her and hope all works out well for all involved.
Happy she remembered her friend Lori and hope that this
memory will serve all well. Give these people some prayers
and time for normalcy and all may turn out well....JJ61
Thank you for finding this update on Jessica, I had been thinking of her and her on going pain.
God has blessed Jessica with a child.
I would not have thought she would be able to have a child, after all they did to her.
I am happy for her and her family, and I wish them the best.
She served this country, so god bless her.
However, I was disgusted how people were trying to make her out to be this Rambolina for Political Correctness reasons.
I am not sure she wanted to be the poster girl for woman in combat, but I guess like everyone she's going to cash in. I don't necessarily blame her, but why does she need a publicist?
Publicists are part of a marketing plan or tool/accessory if one writes or becomes a speaker for whatever reason.
They do a lot of the leg work of getting you or your name or work out there so to speak and making sure you maximize exposure and profits from your experience or efforts.
In the day and age we live in, it isn't unusual to see anyone suddenly trust into the limelight due to the thirst for human interest stories. We live in a media outlet rich environent always looking for more grist for the media mill.
I don't think in her wildest dreams she ever sought or imagined that her being a player in the armed forces and then a casualty of war would thrust her into the spotlight as she was.
Unfortunately, some folks tend to go overboard in their portrayal of folks like jessica who are at the wrong place at the wrong time, not that it is necessarily a bad thing in and of itself. It's just what we have evolved into in the day of rapid fire news and feeding the demand for topics and subjects and making a buck doing it.
Regardless, as many here, I wish her well.
a true Profile in Courage.
she did not seek her fate , it found her.
And no father to teach her what a real man is.
I am glad Jessica was able to have the baby and surprised that she could do so.
Getting married is not the end all, as more than likely, the young father, cannot afford to pay for all the operations they are still doing on Jessica.
Jessica had joined the Army, for the education, she wanted to be a teacher, or that is as I recall the first reports.
I think she still wants to be a teacher. being a mom and her physical condition may slow that goal down a bit, or maybe not, she had to be a strong person to get to where she is today.
Maybe if we keep her in our prayers, she will get the needed extra healing.
Negative. She had some serious injuries, but no amputations. I remember after her rescue and surgeries, there were pictures of her on crutches.
See reply #256 on this thread.
Here is a picture from that thread.
I think it's just a horrible photo. I saw her on television this morning and her arms looked normal. Her left arm was not black.
***I think it's just a horrible photo.***
The one I posted or the original on this thread?
Congratulations Jessica! Thank you for your service, which i am sure is a lot more than nearly everyone on this site giving you crap.
There's nothing wrong with her arms or hands. The shot is close and low, with a wide angle lens at an up angle. That distorts things a bit.
The first one on the thread. It gives her monster arms.
I must have missed the part in the article that discussed their plans or commitment to each other and the baby.
All I can find in the article is good news about someone that served her country, endured a very difficult time, and is putting her life together and has given birth to a beautiful baby girl.
Dang... I'm just not finding unhappiness in there.
I think the shade on her left arm makes it look that way.
