San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has been chosen as the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
As a 16-day, coast-to-coast search for former coach Nick Saban's replacement came to its end today, Dolphins officials concluded that Cameron indeed was their man. A news conference could come as soon as later today.
Cameron, 45, will take over as the seventh head coach in the Dolphins' storied history -- and the fifth coach to lead Miami since Don Shula retired in 1995.
Cameron arrived at the team's facility today with General Manager Randy Mueller at 12:40 p.m., shortly after team officials huddled for more than two hours to decide who they would hire.
At approximately 12:25 p.m., Mueller left the team's facility in his Lexus, only to return 15 minutes later with Cameron in the passenger seat.
After landing in South Florida on Wednesday evening, Cameron spent 13 ½ hours in the following two days meeting with Dolphins officials. The team asked Cameron to stay overnight again Thursday, as they would decide his fate at some point Friday.
Since Cameron is already in town, his introduction as the team's replacement for Nick Saban could occur within hours.

I agree....that's what I told my Dad - he was interviewed as a favor to Don....and of course, to keep getting his $4M buyout, he has to "seriously" seek employment in the coaching field.....so that certainly covers that...!!
Ricky's a head case. He'll end up like Jefferson Street Joe Gilliam, which I think is very sad.
It's definitely sad, but at the same time, he's still coming back to play more football. Not by choice, but he's still going to play.
That's $4 million not going into the Nicktator's pocket.
Guess the other Shula, Mikey, did not impress enough? He couldn't even get an assistant job with the Jags, how did he expect to get the head with Miami? Oh, wait, Daddy was trying to get him the job wasn't he.
You need more than just passing to win in the post-season. Need a solid defense too.
Yeah, the two interviews were a favor to Don Shula, but it's quite likely that Mike Shula will wind up as the QB coach, if rumors of Jason Garrett being promoted to OC are true.
What can he possible teach Dante?? Culpepper has probably forgotten more about the QB position than Mikey will ever know. He ran a sorry offense for the Bucs and got fired. I don't know if I would want him around my QBs.
The QB coach's job is to make sure the QB is prepared for the game, not necessarily to teach them the QB position. Shula certainly wouldn't do that with Culpepper, though he might work with Cleo Lemon and/or Joey Harrington for that purpose.
You give Culpepper too much credit.
The Fins needed a more offensive minded coach so good for them. I hope Lemon starts next season, he looks to have good potential.
Lemon won't be starting. Culpepper is healthy: he's getting the nod.
Lemon should move up to the #2 QB slot, though.
Do you know that for sure?? Heh heh. Only wishing...
I look at the Mike Shula thing as the Dan Marino thing of a few years ago. Still not sure what that was, and it wasn't handled properly, but it was an attempt to recognize the great past. Nothing wrong with that, but the focus needs to be on the future.
Culpepper is good when he's healthy - that's all I can say. No comment on the other two.
Duante will have had about 10 months to beomce healthy again come next Fall. There's always room for change at the backup position(s).
Culpepper is healthy again right now. His initial surgery after being injured was successful, but somehow, a rogue piece of cartilage broke off and wedged itself in his knee. That tiny bit of cartilage caused his limp, his sharp pain when pushing off his right knee, and basically is the reason why he was put on IR.
Right now, he's not walking with a limp (as he was six months ago), he feels no pain in the knee, and staff at the Dolphins' training facility report that the guy's running around fine, even running up stairs with no problem at all. It's as if he was never injured the first place.
Mark my words: Culpepper is back.
For his efforts, Cam recieved the Arthur L. Trester Award for Mental Attitude.
Terre Haute South lost the final 65-64 in OT to Munice Central. For his efforts, Cam played ball for Bobby Knight.
