In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
consanguineous \kahn-san-GWIN-ee-us\ adjective
of the same blood or origin; specifically, descended from the same ancestor
Example sentence:
Brent hadn't believed that the man who claimed to be his long-lost cousin was telling the truth, but the documents proved that the two men were consanguineous.
Did you know?
"Consanguineous" is part of a family of "blood" relatives that all descend from the Latin noun "sanguis," meaning "blood." Some of these relatives are found on the literal branch of the family tree, as "exsanguination," a term for the draining or removal of blood. Others are on the figurative side of the family, such as "sanguine," a word that can mean "bloodred" or "ruddy" but that is more often used with the meaning "cheerful" or "optimistic." There is also "sangfroid," a French word (literally meaning "cold blood") that was borrowed into English to refer to self-control under stress. "Consanguineous" relies on the "kinship" sense of "blood," bringing together "sanguis" with the Latin prefix "con-," meaning "with," to form a word used to describe two or more organisms that descend from the same ancestor.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

For some people, that may be all they have in their lives....sad huh?
I do think it is interesting to know where you came from, and to visit an old family cemetary would be interesting. We went to one near us in Pennsylvania and it was surreal to see graves that had been there for 300 years.
The only reason I know any of this is because my husband is the last male in this particular line of the family and became the bearer of the family heirlooms. He knows all of it, I sure don't.
One of my father's brothers went to Ireland years ago to see if he could trace any of the family history and never got very far. Both of my paternal grandparents arrived here on boats, my grandmother as an indentured servant (for lack of a better term) and my grandfather as an escape from the hangman's noose :)
oh all irish are criminals of one sort or another... LOL!!! JK!!
I think I'd like to read about that side of your family! lol We do have some interesting stories about Indians in our family. My Mom's side were some of the first settlers in one part of Texas and had a little boy kidnapped by indians. It is all written in the history of the county and wasn't all that long ago.
horse around....
so to speak! LOL!
I love exploring old cemetaries. There were dozens of them in and around Dover that we often went exploring in. There are even more around here.
But I have to admit seeing the name of the man I was engaged to at the time engraved on a plaque in a cemetary plot was a very strange feeling. My husband is a Jr. and when we were up in NH he was visiting his father's grave for the first time and the man had been dead more than 5 years. Burials do not happen in the mountains of New Hampshire in the winter.
ROFL!!!!!
That little bit is about all I really know about him. I was about 7 when he died and it was rare that "Grandpa" ever came to our house. It seemed that the only time we ever saw him was when we would go to my cousins' house. Their mother was the baby of the family.
burials do not happen in upstate NY in the middle of winter either. i was not familiar with that, but when my MIL died in November of that year, she wasn't buried til the spring.
Your mother's family history sounds a heck of a lot more interesting than my father's family history!!!!
short of dynamite, it is rather difficult to open a grave in those parts of the country.
We went through the same thing when my MIL died. It was March, the funeral was in Delaware but burial was to be in NH. That was donein August.
i actually watched the first night of American Idol last night. xsbrownie wanted to see it bc her friends talk about it. now that it is no longer the rage, i guess it is ok for me to see it... ; )
Queen Hillary's recent ancestry
Is really easy to see-
Trailertrashicus feminia is
Most of her family tree
She could be consanguineous
With a neanderthal as well
But I think she just married one
And made her life a hell
What an example for young women-
It's okay to be abused
By a man if he is powerful
And his equipment well used
The ice and snow are melting here slowly, but we aren't going to be able to get to the main road tomorrow until probably 9 or so when it gets above freezing.
You mentioned yesterday that Atlanta was like SA in that they close everything the minute a snowflake or sleet pellet falls, and I remembered last evening that once when hubby was TDY to Atlanta, he had gotten stranded at the airport there because snow had caused all flights out to be cancelled-he was really pissed when he called to say he was out for an extra day.
consanguineous
I not sure why, but that sounds vaguely erotic. or maybe it was the close proximity to the hot tub idea that made it that way.
Ok - I'm really proud of myself.
The day turned into a real fuster cluck whn the radiator in my friend's Jimmy blew this morning. She had to go to WalMart to get her husband's prescriptions filled (the radiator went on the way home from the doctor) and another friend who was going to WM today never returned her calls.
Around 12:30 I drove over to her, we strapped the car seat in the back and she used my car to WM.....thankfully I was smart enough to give her my cell phone....because at 2:45 she called me (yet again) that she was just finally leaving WM. As far as I was concerned, she was not going to make it in time to pick the girls up from school and so I said I would go, but that meant I had to drive hubby's truck........
I do not like driving his truck - but I am happy to say, I really didn't even notice I was driving the truck instead of my little car, except when I had to back out of the parkig space in the lot at school :)
I'm also very thankful I didn't encounter any of the deer I saw on the road this morning........good grief they were everywhere!!!!
I went to dance class and then watched hockey instead. They have so many commercials I can't stand to watch it live unless my sister and I are running commentary on the phone. Then I can put kids on with her during commercials.
I was talking about watching AI live, not hockey. I just re-read it and thought it looked confusing.
