I've noticed a lot of hotels have a "green" policy, meaning they encourage us to "save the planet" by not having our room sheets replaced with clean ones every day. Last time I saw this, I declined the "service" and then made a little mark on my sheet with a pencil to see how honest the staff was. Sure enough, they didn't bother to change my sheets even though I requested it. God knows if they even changed the sheets before I got there! I see that a lot -- though with towels and not sheets. Interestingly, even when I hang up the towels they replace them anyway. Maybe it's because of the tip I leave...

All you ever wanted to know about bed bugs from that "liberal" bastion of higher learning, Harvard here:

Who wants to pay London hotel prices when I can get the same bed bugs much cheaper right here in America or Mexico at a quaint, colorful, charming motel?

I thought bed bugs were spread by Paris Hilton and her ilk. I confess I don't know much about Paris Hilton and her ilk, but television is just wrong got it in #12.

I got eaten alive in Myrtle Beach at the Breakers resort in November. I didn't know what the problem was until I was leaving.
They leave a heck of a welt on some people (me). I had many bites.

"I understand they are very difficult to get rid of."
An old joke recommended wallpapering the room with lottery tickets. When you don't win anything, the bedbugs will die from laughter.

I have read that these bugs can't take the cold--if I was in Mass, I'd let winter do some of the work. Move out, shut off the water so the pipes don't burst, let the place freeze for a few days.
I put some of my antique wool textiles in the freezer a couple times a year--I think it kills off moth larvae, but I can't be sure.

I simply do not want to know anything about cleanliness problems in hotel beds. And restuarants as well, up to a certain point.

Yes, I only mentioned their monetary loss.
They told me about the welts and their suffering with all the bites.
The whole thing sounds horrendous.

I suppose the bugs would freeze but you'd have to be lucky with the timing. There are only a few times a year we stay below freezing.

That's why the word "lawyer" is prominently in the title. Since bedbugs are also in NY, would seem to be to be difficult to prove where the biting took place. Hope this lawyer Bluming and his lawyer Weinstein lose.
Normal, even hygenic housekeeping will not prevent bedbugs. Bedbugs are caused by human travel. DDT used to be a good cure.

Two lawyers were standing on the walkway on the Golden Gate Bridge. One was wearing a blue suit and one was wearing a grey suit. Both climbed on the railing and jumped.
Which one died first?
Punch line, anyone?
Who cares?

It takes about a month for the welts to disappear.
The only positive thing is that there are no known diseases transmitted by these little beggars.
They are showing up in high class hotels all over the world now.

It does happen. The critters can either be eliminated by heating the core of a building to 300F or by tented fumigation. Needless to say, no one likes putting up with bedbugs. Its not a pleasant experience to discover you're being fed upon in the wee hours of the morning.

My son stayed at a hotel along the Interstate in KY for a couple of weeks last year. He got bed bugs and was bit by a brown recluse. The hotel "compensated" him with coupons for free stays.
