Tuesday, January 16, 2007, Tuesday, VULNERABLE
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Tomorrow Im bringing in chains, so beware.
The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. Im just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words as if can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.
Pronunciation: vul/ner/a/bal (I think)
Function: adjective
Etymology: Late Latin vulnerabilis, from Latin vulnerare to wound, from vulner-, vulnus wound; probably akin to Latin vellere to pluck, Greek oulE wound
1 : capable of being physically or emotionally wounded
2 : open to attack or damage : ASSAILABLE (vulnerable to criticism)
3 : liable to increased penalties but entitled to increased bonuses after winning a game in contract bridge
You may use all the vulnerables you choose, such as invulnerable, invulnerabless, you know, those kinds of words, and you will get a grade.
I have a Band-Aide on my right index finger, so please forgive me if I give you a rotten grade.
RULES: You must use the WFTD in a sentence for an A. For a + after your A, you must bring in a link of the word usage or something funny, a poem or some prose that will elucidate the word for us.
If you need to know how to link, come to the Subbies desk in the front of the class.
BTW, xs, I'm using a pretty close word to your "puissance" (did I spell that correctly?) today from your word yesterday. Great word! Just don't make me spell it with the Band-Aide on my finger. LOL! And another BTW, yunz were warmer than we were yesterday. What a hoot!
I have the date wrong in two different places. I'm not invulnerable. A++++ for me.
I have the date wrong everywhere. It's Tuesday, okay?
Her Shrillariness is finding herself as vulnerable to an attack from the left by Obama-Osama as she is to one from the right by, well, any non-communist who might run for the Democrat nomination.
guess i missed you, slippy. i am up early! it is still warmish but that ends today, as temps are spozed to fall. i bought a new winter coat yesterday at Talbots[winter clearance], since i have no idea what xshub has done with any of my coats. cannot find them in this house. he transfers stuff up and down from our storage area at the change of seasons and i have three coats that i cannot find. anyway, i bought one, bc for the first time this winter i think i am going to need it!
Hi shim!

The closer Fidel gets to his dirtnap, the more vulnerable Raul Castro becomes from his circle of friends and aides, inside and outside that country.

Morning!
If queen Hillary had her way
She'd no doubt take us back
To a September 10th mentality
Where we're vulnerable to attack
By any wacko jihadists
Who want to have a name
Among their barbarian kind
That gives them dubious fame
That is why she needs to wake up
And smell the coffee right away-
X42 is not in charge
And she has nothing smart to say
I was awakened by sleet falling on the roof at 3 am, and now the deck and yard are solid ice-I had to put down throw rugs on it to take Husky girl out-it is 24, and intermittent snow and sleet are falling. According to the SA TV stations, IH 10 and the surface streets leading from here to hubby's workplace are shut down, and so is the highway to Castroville, where I was supposed to work today. This stuff is supposed to continue all day, with temperatures in the high 20's, so I'm going to throw some wood on the fire and work on the afghan I'm crocheting.
It's overcast enough here that our outside lights remain on, but it's 64 degrees.........which will be the high temp for the day. Temp is expected to start falling this afternoon and tomorrow's highs will only be in the 30s.
You're not invulnerable, just forward-thinking! ;)
Yikes! That sounds pretty bad. SA will grind to a halt. Kind of like the Spurs in yesterday's game...
