PATS' SACK DANCE TICKS OFF TOMLINSON (Class Alert)
NY Post | 1/15/07 | Mark Cannizzaro

Posted on 01/15/2007 4:22:26 AM PST by beyond the sea

LaDanian Tomlinson, usually very mild-mannered, became incensed after the Chargers' 24-21 loss to the Patriots yesterday when some New England players began mocking Shawne Merriman's sack dance on the Chargers' logo.

"I was very upset," said Tomlinson, who went after some of the New England players. "I would never react that way. I'm a very, very classy person. When you go to the middle of a field and you're doing the dance that Merriman does, that's disrespectful to me and I can't sit there and watch that. It showed no class at all, and maybe that comes from their head coach."

Everyone in the house knew the Patriots' first priority yesterday was going to be trying to stop Tomlinson, who scored an NFL-record 31 touchdowns this season.

Tomlinson, though, came right out and gashed the Patriots' defense and did it repeatedly throughout the game, rushing for 123 yards and two TDs. In fact, Tomlinson was generally the Chargers' first option on almost every offensive series. Tomlinson gained 81 of his rushing yards on 10 first-down carries.

Someone needs to tell Shannon Sharpe that.

As a Kansas City Chief's fan, I salute Belichick and the Pats for knocking off San Diego and hastening Marty's retirement. And as someone who's boss is an insufferable Colt's fan, I say guys, you've got one more job to do.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I made the same remark last night on the NFL thread...and yes, I'm flattered...

"Someone needs to tell Shannon Sharpe that."

Someone needs to explain to me how in the Hell Shannon Sharpe got an announcer's job?

The man can't annunciate English language whatsoever.

Nope. They'd want to keep the offense as intact as possible, with as much continuity as possible.

Plus, Cameron sucked at Indiana.

I just wonder about giving Phillips another head job. He didn't exactly excel in Denver or Buffalo.

It's not like they have anyone else to give the job to. And the Marty era has to end. The team choked, and he didn't even wear a headset to call the shots in that game!

I have liked what I have seen of him also. OK--let's give him a heat-o'-the-moment mulligan.

I'm going back and forth between Boston and San Diego sports talk radio. The San Diego guys are stunned.

In the NL you don't have that type of crap. It is understood that if you throw at a guy for the wrong reasons you get drilled as well.

How many passes did Chargers receivers simply drop? They had great field position at the start of just about every drive in the first half, yet only put up fourteen points. And then they let the Pats march right down the field at the close of the half and put themselves squarely back in the game. Stupid turnovers too. And even when they made a great play on D, like an interception, they gave it back with a fumble on the same play. They should have won going way if they had executed efficiently on offense. And for all their offensive firepower, they couldn't get a first down with the score tied and four minutes left and had to punt it back to the Patriots. I don't think you can put this one on Marty.
