LaDanian Tomlinson, usually very mild-mannered, became incensed after the Chargers' 24-21 loss to the Patriots yesterday when some New England players began mocking Shawne Merriman's sack dance on the Chargers' logo.
"I was very upset," said Tomlinson, who went after some of the New England players. "I would never react that way. I'm a very, very classy person. When you go to the middle of a field and you're doing the dance that Merriman does, that's disrespectful to me and I can't sit there and watch that. It showed no class at all, and maybe that comes from their head coach."
Everyone in the house knew the Patriots' first priority yesterday was going to be trying to stop Tomlinson, who scored an NFL-record 31 touchdowns this season.
Tomlinson, though, came right out and gashed the Patriots' defense and did it repeatedly throughout the game, rushing for 123 yards and two TDs. In fact, Tomlinson was generally the Chargers' first option on almost every offensive series. Tomlinson gained 81 of his rushing yards on 10 first-down carries.
I understand the reason for that rule. I really do. But give me a break. There were like 6 seconds left in the game and Gould just nailed a frigging 50 yarder.
The Bears actions made absolutely no difference to the outcome of the play or the game. So why toss the damned flag?
Oh well. Wadday gonna do except BEARS WIN BEARS WIN BEARS WIN!
Now if only Grossman can keep it to less than 3 interceptions next week....We need a real frigging quarterback not some teenager who looks like his head will pop off like a Rockem Sockem Robot the next time he takes a hit...
L
Possibly. But I now what DOES come from their head coach. Play calling, clock management, game strategy. Stuff you won't find on your side of the field, LT. Have a nice off-season.
LOL
I'm over it. I had no dog in this fight.
Save your advice for someone else.
Right On.
I didn't mean that personally.....I meant it for Tomlinson.
Sorry that I didn't make that clear.
Totally right.
How about that challenge?
Unreal.
;-)
OMG I am soooo tired of these "celebrations" they seem so staged. I wonder if the agents tell these dolts to do crap like this to get noticed?
I've seen Defensive backs go through complicated celebrations after they tackle a running back who just ran for 28 yards on third down and moved the chains.
Makes you wonder if these bozos have any clue.
Bring back Mark Bavarro... you could never tell if he'd just dropped a pass for a first down, or scored the winning touchdown. A real pokerface.
LOL......... I remember...... always seemd to have his head down.
Hmmm.
I admit, I find it comical that someone would be upset about a classless celebration dance performed by some other team, that is based on a classeless celebration dance performed by his own team.
Personally, I would prefer that there were no celebrations done on the field. I have the most respect for those who do something positive for their team, but who do not perform any kind of ritualized celebration.
I used to play hockey (was a goalie) and I had plenty of "in your face" celebrations by some pretty obnoxious players. They would score a goal, then get right in your face and scream at you "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
It took a lot of self control not to whack them with my stick, but I always made it a point not to gloat or be a jerk if I ever shut someone down.
As I said, I would rather the Patriots had not done anything like that, but if you do it to someone else, you open yourself up to it, and you better be able to take it.
I also understand that on the playing field yesterday, there was an unusual level of disrespectful trash talking going on. It would have been best if everyone had just STFU and played football.
They can dish it out but they can't take it.
I agree, but LT should have been given the ball at least two out of three downs when the Chargers had the ball w/ 3:00+ minutes left. That's where Marty had his predictable brain freeze.
Marty ALWAYS loses the big games on a field goal w/ time running out. That poor bast@rd has to be a candidate for The Twilight Zone (or the looney bin) at this stage of his career.
And you were real smart when you shut a team out not to gloat, just in case you had to deal with them again.
By the way, these hitters in baseball that admire their homeruns at the plate before they go around the bases........ back in the 50's and 60's they would have had a ball in their ear some time soon after that.
;-)
I felt bad for those poor DB's who tried to tackle him.
Did LT get his widdle feewings hurt? It's nice that they cannot pin this on T.O., but ESPN will try.
I was under the impression that Marty called no plays in yesterday's game, that he had handed that over to others.
The ones I can't stand is when a DB lays a big hit on a receiver BUT the receiver hangs on to the ball. Then the DB celebrates like he actually did something really great.
The more I think about the game the more Charger mistakes I'm coming up with.
That's what the annoucers said at the beginning of the game and they noted that he wasn't wearing a headset. BUT during the last two drives he had the headset on and so I assume he was providing invaluable insight into play selection.
