LaDanian Tomlinson, usually very mild-mannered, became incensed after the Chargers' 24-21 loss to the Patriots yesterday when some New England players began mocking Shawne Merriman's sack dance on the Chargers' logo.
"I was very upset," said Tomlinson, who went after some of the New England players. "I would never react that way. I'm a very, very classy person. When you go to the middle of a field and you're doing the dance that Merriman does, that's disrespectful to me and I can't sit there and watch that. It showed no class at all, and maybe that comes from their head coach."
Everyone in the house knew the Patriots' first priority yesterday was going to be trying to stop Tomlinson, who scored an NFL-record 31 touchdowns this season.
Tomlinson, though, came right out and gashed the Patriots' defense and did it repeatedly throughout the game, rushing for 123 yards and two TDs. In fact, Tomlinson was generally the Chargers' first option on almost every offensive series. Tomlinson gained 81 of his rushing yards on 10 first-down carries.
Indeed he did. The ironic thing is that people on the Dolphins board I go to treat Gailey like he's got the most lethal disease in the world. When I point out 2001, they only say, "THINGS CHANGE!" It is so frustrating to be a Dolphins fan sometimes.
Of course, they still think Capers or someone else could be convinced to be the head coach for only 1 year while we make a run at Cowher in 2008. Ugh.
I'm just waiting for the inevitable "Denny Green is the new head coach of the Oakland Raiders" announcement.
Funny how those "better teams" just can't seem to score more points than the Pats.
They should have ridden LT into the dirt in the second half. They would have won the game.
Yeah I'm sure Capers would want to take a one year iterim job. /sarcasm
Troy Brown.
A person's true character comes out in the bad times, not the good.
If that's the case then Green's family and friends need to plan an intervention.
Well, this is a group that's now depressed that Brian Brohm is staying in college, because they thought the team both had a shot and should've drafted him at #9. Now they're pushing for Dwayne Jarrett... ugh.
Capers had better enjoy the defensive coordinator position. He's there for the next three years.
Doesn't it remind you of Mike Martz going away from Marshall Faulk in SB 36?
No doubt he made the play of the game but Light stoned that steroid, dancing freak Merriman all day.
That's the big mistake that fans make when they see games like that. They think it was an indication of playing badly or being a bad team or whatever. Both of those teams had elite defenses and that's what a matchup of those kind of teams looks like. Brady made those INTs because of the pressure to him and the coverage of his receivers. Same on the Chargers. They made turnovers and INTs and stupid penalties because the Pats defense was making them uncomfortable physically and mentally.
Unlike you, I have to go back to work now. :(
You never know. We did a lot better with a QB taken #199 overall than one taken #1.
Agreed, and probably going away as he would have broken at least one big one. They only put up twenty-one points. Not enough.
In a way it reminded me of the great Fouts - Coryel teams. But this Charger team has a Defense that is the equal of the Offense. Ah, what might have been.......
As for Pats - Colts, how can you not take the Patriots to win? Brady has never lost an AFC championship game nor a Super Bowl. It's in the dome sure, but I think BandB are already in Peyton's head.
That Charger front seven is damn good.
MLK Day couldn't have come at a better time for me.
Indeed. Best value draft pick ever made, I think.
Brady is at his best in domes. I'm sure all week the story line will be that Manning will finally get over the hump and that the Colts defense will crush Brady.
Terrell Davis wasn't too bad either.
